There has been a gun culture in La Puente, California for over 150 years. The first firearms were muzzle-loading pistols, which were invented in this region by American Ensign Henry F. Smith. From the early 1800s until the late 1860s, La Puente was one of the most active and prosperous cities in Southern California. This prosperity came from its location on the main shipping route between San Diego and Los Angeles and from its growing wine industry. In 1868, Mayor George Robertson designated La Puente as a city police district, which led to increased law enforcement activity and more guns being used by citizens. In 1892, Captain John Sutter organized a group of local farmers to buy arms and form an arm club known as the "La Puente Riflemen." The club purchased 10 rifles and started practicing at Kelly's Ford Dam where they shot at waterfowl. They soon realized that their weapons were not adequate for hunting big game such as deer or lions but proved themselves with successful shootouts against rival rifle clubs in nearby villages. In 1903, Captain Sutter donated his rifle collection to the City of La Puente so that it could be displayed in a museum located on Main Street near downtown La Puenta. The museum is open to the public every day from 9:00am to 4:00pm during school terms (December through May), and admission is free for everyone except members of school groups (K-12). In 1912, Mayor Manuel Gomez dedicated part of Main Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue to serve as an outdoor plaza where people could assemble for gunfire demonstrations if necessary. On July 14th 1913, two gunmen firing shotguns killed Supervisor John Phelan while he was walking home from work on Market Street following his morning jog around town; Phelan's murder marked the start of what would become known as "The century of violence" in La Puente . Throughout Prohibition Era (1920-1933), many Handguns were acquired by criminals who used them for racketeering purposes or storage during prohibition raids; these handguns continue into present day with some remaining privately owned even after Repeal became legal again in 1933

The La Puente Pistol Club has been around since 1892. The club met at the old Central School and continues to meet there today. In 1928, the pistol club moved to its current location on Prescott Street in La Puente.

La Puente is a small town located in Orange County, California. The population was 7,821 at the 2010 census. La Puente is home to the University of California, Riverside and its main campus, as well as two high schools- La Verne High School and Northridge High School. The first European settlers in what is now La Puente were Spanish missionaries who arrived in 1776. After Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded in 1781 by Father José Gomez, additional missions were built in what is now Orange County- Mission San Francisco de Asís (1785), Mission Santa Ana (1802), and Mission San José de Buenaventura (1810). In 1814 Mexican governor Alvarado granted land to Antonio Jose Robles for the development of a mission colony called Rancho Santiago de las Palmas y Los Olivos. The colonists began building their homes on this land in 1815, but only ten families lived there when Mexican president Agustín Manuel López Mora decided to move the capital of Mexico from Puebla City to Mexico City. In 1846 Californian gold seekers discovered gold near present-day La Puente; soon after the town sprang up around this gold rush. From 1850 until 1860 many people here worked on cattle drives that took advantage of good grazing country near Stockton and Ceres Valley. Today much of the agricultural production takes place outside of La Puente thanks to cross breeding techniques between breeds of cows and horses

The first firearm hats were worn in the early 1800s. A hat with a band to fit around the top of the head and a piece of cloth or felt over the brim served as a safety device for shooters. The gunners would place their hands on either side of the hat so that they could grip the muzzle of their gun comfortably.

In 1871, Mexican immigrants who had been working in the U.S. for over a year, founded La Puente, California as their new home. The land that now makes up La Puente was purchased by José María Cámpora and his brothers from an individual claim in Rancho San Luis Rey de la Paloma Viejo which they claimed on November 7, 1849. In 1850, when Mexico gained its independence from Spain, this area became part of the newly created State of California and was named after José María Cámpora’s father-in-law, Antonio Bautista de la Torre y Valdés. The first white people to live in La Puente were Juan Francisco Peralta and his family who arrived on May 6th of that year. Juan Francisco had married Ana Margarita Sánchez (born October 15th of 1823), daughter of Santiago Sánchez y Arellano. From this marriage came four children: Eduardo Peralta (1851-1932), Manuela Peralta (1853-1935), Pedro Pablo Peralta (1857-1937) and Concepción Peralta (1859-1945). In 1872 Captain John Wainwright disembarked his ship “John Bull” at Point Reyes National Seashore and set out for what is today known as Santa Cruz County looking for a place to build a wharf on which he could dock his ships carrying goods from Southern California to China. He found no takers so he returned to England without having made any new discoveries but with the idea that if he did find property worth developing hereabouts it would do so through friends or business connections rather than by purchase alone In 1886 William Rea discovered oil rigs off Point Reyes while exploring for oil south of San Francisco Bay; these rigs soon led to the Gold Rush as various companies began exploration near Point Reyes Station including Rea & Company which later became American Petroleum Corporation However, because there was still no reliable water supply available for such operations along with high competition from other firms interested in exploiting offshore oil reserves in California coastal waters La Puenta was mostly abandoned during this time period It wasn’t until 1896 when developer Harry Fenton bought 10 acres just east of present day Main Street where he laid out what is today called Fenton Place atop some old redwoods making him one of the earliest developers in town After several years Fenton sold all his interest in American Petroleum Corporation and turned it into Los Angeles Aqueduct fame becoming one of the most successful businessmen ever associated with LA In 1907 Pacific Gas & Electric Company built a pipeline running under downtown LA providing city residents with their first electricity connection One hundred years ago today many businesses are still located around Main Street including: The Post Office Building completed 1912; The Masonic Lodge building completed 1924; Hahn's Drug Store finished 1922; The Bank building finished 1931; Japanese restaurant Japansense opened 1935; El Centro Depot closed 1959

The City of La Puente was founded in 1868 by Hispanic settlers, who were seeking to create a new community away from the larger city of El Paso. The city's name comes from the San Gabriel River, which runs through it and provides access to fertile land. La Puente quickly became known for its fruit orchards and cotton fields, as well as its beautiful architecture and churches. In the 1920s, La Puente was home to one of California's first black towns, which struggled during the Great Depression. However, in recent decades, La Puente has become a center for culture and education in southern California.
