On October 25, 1847 representatives from thirty-six US states met at Veracruz to create what would become known as The United States Constitution Convention in Philadelphia PA. At this meeting American citizens proposed that America should cede its possessions east of Baja California to Mexico so that there would be one country ruled by Americans instead of multiple nations controlled by European powers. This proposal failed but helped establish America's sense of national identity and purpose throughout its history
