The city of La Palma, California was founded on December 12, 1853 by American pioneer Lorenzo Price. At the time of its founding, it was located on the Rancho San Antonio Mexican land grant that had been given to Price in 1827. Price and his wife Angelina started a small mission in what is now called Old Mission Park. The first post office in La Palma opened in 1854. During the Gold Rush of 1849-1852, La Palma became an important stop on wagon trains heading to Stockton and Sacramento. The city's growth began rapidly during the late 1850s and early 1860s when settlers arrived from Central America and other parts of Mexico City. In 1865, Captain John Sutter led a military expedition against the Indians at Lompoc Creek near present-day La Mesa. On July 1, 1867, La Palma became part of California when it was granted as part of Rancho Santa Clara by Governor Pio Pico to José Joaquín de Chabot y Ulloa. In 1870, Drury & Company donated 8 acres (3 ha) for school District #4 which would eventually become known as La Palmas School District #1. Classes were held at various homes around town before moving to their current location on First Street in 1870; this building still stands today! In 1903, District #1 merged with School District #2 to form Educational Services District No. 2 (ESD). That same year saw the opening of the first grocery store in town - Fidelity Grocery & Meat Market! It wasn't until 1907 that students moved into their present-day high school building which still stands today! On February 22nd of that year pursuant to Resolution No. 6479 passed by the Board of Education - "An act providing for establishment as a public elementary school within SchoolsDistrict 2 for children living within said district who are not otherwise able or willing to attend schools outside thereof" - ESD erected a new high school building on East Broadway between Findlay and Commonwealth Streets which served as both elementary and secondary education until 1969 when it was replaced by Our Lady Of Mount Carmel High School! From then until 2003 -La Palma Public Schools operated out of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel HS until we moved into our current facility!

The town of La Palma was founded on the site of an earlier settlement in 1824 by two brothers, José and Manuel de la Rúa.
