After living among Native Americans for some time he decided to settle down in what is now downtown La Mirada where he erected a small adobe building known as "Nieto's Fort" which still stands today within walking distance of downtown LA's lively business district called Mayfair Mall A post office opened at La Mirada on January 12th 1825 under the name Los Alamitos and grew rapidly due to mail service available between San Diego and points north including Sacramento via stagecoach connections then Route 66 running through present-day Anaheim also serving Asuncion, Paraguay In 1827 Mexican general Pio Pico founded Los Angeles County with land grants near present-day Glendale In 1840 two brothers - James Averell Harriman (1801-1892) born in New York City - started a ferry service between Hermosa Beach on Long Island Sound Ferry Terminal (now Harbor Boulevard) on Long Beach Boulevard across from Los Olivos Creek where they stored their ferries overnight then took them back across municipal boundaries the next day morning before starting their ferry service again across Arequipa Creek which separated eastern OC from northern CA Later that year Alex Teixeira laid out streets gridironfashion northeast/southwestNE along what are now Second Street/East Avenue south of Vermont Avenue It should be noted here that Harriman & Teixeira were not only early entrepreneurs but financial backers behind early motion pictures such as The Picture House (later RKO), First National Pictures (later Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer), Paramount Pictures etc… These alleyways or streets leading into town are still spoken about casually by locals with names like Soquel Way/Vermont Ave., Eastlake/Second Street NE etc…. In 1852 AD John Crain established two stores - Wagon Wheel Mercantile Agency & Dry Goods Store at Broadway and Western Avenue west of Main Street while another store – JW Perkins & Son Merchant Tailor Emporium - operated at 4242 Main St between Yale Place eastward into Pasadena Three years later Augustus Chapman purchased 90 acres adjoining modern day Malibu Canyon just east of I-805 N off original unpaved State Highway 128 running past current day Mulholland Drive south / west towards Pacific Palisades Reservoir
