La Mirada, California is a town located in Kern County, California. The population was 15,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield-Tijuana metropolitan area. The first people to live in La Mirada were Mexican immigrants who came overland from Zacatecas in 1846. In 1865, General Grant grantedrancho Viejo to José Antonio Guerrero for his father's prodigality during the Mexican–American War; it changed hands several times before becoming ranches of ranchos nationales administered by Mexico until it was bought by George Hearn Flagler in 1901. During World War I, many American soldiers were quartered at Camp Roberts which became known as "the Hollywood Hills" because many Of those soldiers had their homes constructed there while stationed in Southern California during that war. Many famous Hollywood stars lived or worked here such as Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Mary Pickford and Clark Gable among others In 1926 when Kern County was created from portions of Riverside County following statehood, La Mirada became its first city limits with a population of 10 residents. That same year saw construction begin on what would become Uptown shopping center which anchored then-northwest corner of I-5 and State Street within present day Downtown LaMirada bounded by eastwood Boulevard on the north side and Mission Boulevard on the south side with its original water tower still standing today inside this redevelopment project
