In 1916, Mr. Edward Condon founded what is now known as OpticsUSA Incorporated and began selling lightbulbs and other optics products from his home on Third Street in La Mirada. By 1922, he had organized a second league which met at his shop on First Street. This league played a role in developing modern eye care by providing training to its members on how to make lenses and other optical equipment correctly. In 1926-27, Mr. Condon donated land near Mission Boulevard to establish the present day University of Optics located there today

It was the first town in California to be established on the Rincon Hill Trail, which ran from San Francisco toSacramento. The town grew rapidly due to its location near valuable mineral deposits and its access to the Pacific Ocean via a road built by surveyor George Cranch in 1883. The town's population reached 5,000 in 1907 and 100,000 by 1920. In 1915, La Mirada became an incorporated city with a mayor and City Council system similar to that of Los Angeles. By 1950 it had reached 400,000 people and was one of the most diverse cities in California with a population of over 1 million people from various ethnic backgrounds. The city's economy is based on agriculture,commerce,and manufacturing; it has been home to many major American companies such as Boeing and Intel since World War II when they relocated their production plants there after the war ended hostilities between America and Japan
La Mirada was founded in 1906 by the McDonald brothers, who named it after their hometown of Mirandola, Italy. The town had been abandoned for years and the McDonalds decided to start a new life there. They started a small grocery store and soon enough, they had a population of around 20 people. In 1912, the McDonalds built an impressive home on what is now known as Prospect Avenue. The home still stands today and is used as a museum. La Mirada quickly became an important community in central California due to its location and its rich history.
