Although not directly contiguous with modern-day LaMirada during wartime period, portions of North Park Avenue – between Imperial Boulevard and Harbor Drive – have been identified as part of this military area since 1945 due to its proximity to naval gunfire tests conducted by Navy Pier on that location during that era. La Mirada experienced rapid growth during the late 1920s through 1930s when new subdivisions were developed along First Street (now Ventura Boulevard), Third Street (now State Route 211) and Fourth Street (now State Route 120). Development continued into the 1940s when Interstate 5 was constructed just east of town limits parallel to First Street which eliminated much need for arterial streets in town boundaries; however, streetcars continue to serve as an important transportation backbone connecting different areas within town limits until recently when buses replaced them entirely
