La Mesa is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. La Mesa is located on the border of southern San Diego and northern Orange counties. It is bordered by El Cajon to the north, Vista to the east, Garden Grove to the south, and Midway City to the west. The name "La Mesa" comes from Mission Santa Clara de las Ascenciones (founded 1769), which was located in present-day La Mesa. In 1821, John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort near what is now La Mesa after defeating Mexican forces at Rancho Rinconada in what would become known as Sutter's Civil War (1846–48). As development around Sutter's Fort increased and people began arriving from neighboring townships such as Imperial Valley and Yorba Linda, they started calling their new town "Sutterville." The first post office was established in 1876. In 1912 an oil well were drilled near present-day La Mesa and production began; this helped spurresidential development around that time. By 1925 there were over 100 residences within one block of downtown La Mesa. In 1951 anti-vandalism ordinance went into effect in order to protect property values caused by summer concerts being held at Municipal Stadium on East Main Street; it also prohibited loud music or entertainment without prior consent from organizers. During World War II many black Americans worked on USS Hornet air strikes against Japanese targets off Southern California during 1942–1945; some of these individuals may have settled down in La Mesa after the war ended making it their home until they left again for other parts of America or Europe when Los Angeles grew too noisy for them again. The late Mayor Harry Reid Sr.'s daughter developed a business providing catering services throughout Southern California called Reid's Diner which continued operating until 2003 out of a former bank building at 9th Avenue & Speedway Boulevard across from Pompano Beach High School (now part of Naval Air Station Miramar). In 1960 voters passed Measure J authorizing annexation by San Diego County with Community Redevelopment Agency FUND monies earmarked for community development purposes only; however no action ever took place due to opposition led by Pershing Square developers who saw this as an opportunity to purchase adjacent parcels (#782+783) adjoining SAN DIEGO COUNTY LINE so they could build more upscale housing developments adjacent thereto instead! On November 6th, 1984 two improvised explosive devices destructive each detonated outside Ricardo Ramos Elementary School resulting minor injuries only though all children inside should have been evacuated but no one did because school administrators chose not to use protection gear! A few weeks later another IED exploded while parked next door causing extensive damage though no injuries occurred! On February 1st 1993 another IED exploded injuring 5 people including President Ronald Reagan’s son press secretary Jack Kemp whose car got caught up between two cars waiting for him at a gas station just east of downtown LA MESA before he even had time get out his car! This type of terrorism has become increasingly common throughout North America occurrence increasing since September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks……..

In 1852, Los Angeles County was created from parts of San Bernardino and Orange counties. La Mesa became part of Los Angeles County. In 1907, construction began on what would eventually become Pasadena Municipal Airport. In 1916, La Mesa's first post office opened with mail service only to close two years later because of high postage rates for California items being sent through the mail at that time. La Mesa experienced its heyday during World War II when many local businesses produced munitions for the war effort such as Purdy's Lumber Company and Empire Rubber Company . The post office closed in 1945 after World War II ended but reopened in 1951 as an extremely modern facility with all electronic services including email and faxing
