La Habra is an unincorporated community in Imperial County, California. It was established in 1887 as a result of the establishment of a post office there by US Navy Captain Augustus H. Cook and his wife, Amelia B. Cook. The first post office closed in 1893, but the name "Habra" remained until it was changed to La Habra in 1907. Cook founded a small town on Rancho San Jacinto east of Mission Bay called Echo Valley after home he had just completed from his previous command at sea as captain of USS Constitution (1875-79). He named it after his daughter Amelia Bessie Cook's birthplace - Echo Valley being one mile wide and two miles long with hills measuring one and one-half miles high respectively... On July 1st 1898 the town site was platted when all residents voted to adopt the following form of government: A committee appointed to provide for municipal affairs composed of Captains Alfred Jurek (First Mayor), Harry Wirthman (Mayor pro tem), William Tingley ( recorder) and myself Captain Cook donated land south side of Railroad tracks between Third Street and Fourth Street which became what is now part of Town Square There were no roads or water available so wagonloads brought goods each day from missions downriver The first public building erected here was a schoolhouse built by Captains Alfred Jurek & Harry Wirthman . . . within six months Post Office #1 opened with 20 subscribers All mail traveling through Echo Valley went thru this PO Box before 1907 When new tracks were laid near Water Works Plant about 1915 some people moved out because their homes hadNA been destroyed by fire during WWI although many more lived here after that After World War II most people left except for a few who continued farming until 1974 when electric service came

La Habra, California is a city located in the Mono County of Southern California. The population was 6,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The name La Habra comes from Spanish and means "the reeds". The city was founded by Rancho La Hacienda de la Laguna property owner Don Miguel Crespi and his wife Juana on November 1, 1881 as a small community near present-day Lancaster. Crespi named it for their home town of Huelva, Spain where he had been born in 1859. The first post office in La Habra opened on December 12, 1881. A year later, on January 15th 1882, the first store was built. In 1886–87, local citizens erected a school building that still stands today known as Mrs. Waddell's School House (now part of John Wayne High School). In 1888 another structure was erected with funds raised by subscription among local farmers and merchants; this became known as "The Old Adobe" which stood until 1935 when it burned down to make way for new development that included power plants and other businesses just south of the original site of "The Old Adobe." In 1912 La Habra annexed portions of Ridgecrest and Sunland Village forming what is now called West Hills Recreation Area which also includes much older Saddleback Valley Ranch land east of LA 9N/Rage Drive including many old adobe buildings dating back to pre-mission period settlers in this area including Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico Church (1835) remains from early stage ranching operations eastward along Lankershim Blvd., now adjacent to newer high tech campuses straddling Lankershim BlVD., Montebello Rd., Willow Glen Dr./Willow Glen Ave., etc... . From 1913 onward there were efforts to provide sewer systems within incorporated limits but ultimate success seemed elusive until 1926 when then Mayor Leroy Park appointed Harry Laughlin Director City Services Planning Department who led an effort finally resulting in constructionreliable sewers being installed within 5 years without prior public vote or special legislation permit
