La Habra is a city in southern California, located on the San Gabriel Mountains. It was founded in 1881 by Alvaro Obregon and named after the then-ruler of Mexico City, Agustín de La Habra. The population of La Habra was 9,000 in 1900, grew to over 60,000 by 1910 and peaked at more than 100,000 in 1920. After declining during the Great Depression, La Habra's population declined again until it reached its lowest levels in 2000. However, recent growth has led to a population of over 150,000 people within the city limits as well as an expanding suburban area that includes portions of Pasadena and Victorville. The history of La Habra begins with Alvaro Obregon who founded what would become known as La Habra on October 21st 1881 from land he purchased from Juan José Cisneros. At first only 8 people lived here including Obregon himself and his wife Teofila. The town was established on a site about two miles east of present day downtown La Habra and consisted of three homes: Obregon’s home “El Torreón” (the tower), Flores’ home “Tierra Blanca” (White Mountain), and Tarraga’s home “Pueblo Viejo” (Old Village). In 1890–1892 Union Pacific Railroad began construction on a line between Anaheim and Bakersfield which passed through this region. This line would later be renamed the Santa Fe Railway when it merged into Mexican National Railway in 1912. As work continued along this new route several businesses were opened such as Saluda Bakery & Tea Company (opened December 1888) which became one of Los Angeles County's oldest commercial institutions; A&W Brewery ((1896) now part of In-N-Out Burgers); Mrs Pritchard's Clothing Store; Metropolitano bakery (& Cafe)(1901); Jardineria Guerrera(1902); Manuel Gomez saddlery(& harnesses)(1903). On November 3rd 1892Obregon donated 350 acres northwest of town for civic use with development plans for 700 homes to be built on it but due to adverse weather conditions nothing happened until 1896 when business finally began with A&W Brewery opening Its first store.(later changed name to In-N-Out Burger). In 1911 local artist Tony Mazzoli dedicated an artesian well near today's intersection of SR 521/State Route 27 just northwest of downtown La Habra for water supply needs for residents however no wells were ever built because funding never came through - another problem that would plague this community throughout their history! After World War I bombing raids occurred which destroyed many small communities around Southern California some members decided to move out west while others opted not to leave because they felt they had something special here like Millbrae did years earlier! So instead outgrowth took place in terms both housing types especially since post WWI Veterans returning from overseas started buying properties back East where there were already plenty available! This economic boom also helped spur development along State Route 521 specifically eastward towards Sylmar(now part Of Glendale) leading eventually to current day neighborhoods like Buena Park(northwest corner), Montrose Heights(southwest corner), Willow Glen(east side), North Hollywood(south side) etc... Some may say that these developments were simply copycats or "military towns" following WWII but whatever the reason they all share one common goal: To stay put! A significant event that took place during this time period was when Norma Desmond filmed her stage play "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" at nearby Paramount Studios located across Interstate 15 from downtown LAHabRA while most residents avoided the film set entirely fearing Communist influence!!! although future films like "Ender's Game" and "Thelma & Louise" did take place within driving distance
