By 1915, there were over 100 people in La Habra with shotguns. In 1928, the city of La Habra passed an ordinance regulating handguns and required all handgun owners to present a license to own any gun larger than .22 caliber as well as a $25 per month registration fee for each handgun. In 1934, the city passed an ordinance regulating rifles and required all rifle owners to present a license to own any rifle larger than 6 inches by 4 inches or any shotgun larger than 12 gauge with at least one shot fired through it. In 1959, the city of La Habra passed an ordinance requiring all handgun owners who possessed more than five handguns to register them with the police department within 24 hours after acquiring them and must furnish proof of registration renewal every six months or face criminal prosecution. From 1959 until 1974, handguns were not regulated and could be owned without violating law; however, rifles were still regulated at this time and must be registered with the police department within 24 hours after acquisition if possessed over 5 firearms (which was then considered 5+).

However, after the war ended La Habra began to grow rapidly into a major town with its own government and school system Today, La Habra continues to be an important cultural center for Orange County with many popular festivals taking place throughout the year including Art Faire (an art show), Fiesta Filipino Americana (a Fiesta Celebration celebrating Filipino American culture), Car Show Day at Chaparral Motorsports Park (the largest car show in Southern California), Mexican Independence Day (October 15th) parade/march through downtown streets filled with patriotic music and flags galore, Christmas Eve celebration featuring live music at Town Square Park followed by dinner at Foster's Place), Hispanic Heritage Month (January - March), College Days at Chapman University (largest concentration of students among all universities within Orange County) In addition to its vibrant cultural attractions, La Habra also offers excellent schools that provide opportunities for families to raise their children there. With the arrival of more miners and settlers, business boomed as people came to trade goods and services with those living near the railroad tracks. A great deal of development took place around this time including construction of churches (including Our Lady of Perpetual Help). In 1886, when a new city hall was built downtown, La Habra became an official city with its own government and police department. The 20th century was a time of growth for La Habra as businesses expanded into new industries such as aluminum smelting and textiles manufacturing; however, it also saw some tough times including World War II when many local citizens served in the military; an economic downturn during the early 2000s that affected many sectors of the community; and most recently wildfires that have destroyed several buildings downtown. Despite these challenges, La Habra has continued to grow both culturally and economically over the years – making it one of America's fastest-growing cities!
On July 14, 1846, California was admitted to the United States as a free state. The town of La Habra was established in what is now Imperial County by Captain John Sutter and his Battalion of Volunteers under the command of Major George Armstrong Cranch. Captain Sutter named the town for General Mexican Commander Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who had led an expedition against American interests in New Mexico Territory. The post office at La Habra was founded on December 7, 1847 and served until May 1st, 1850 when it moved to Whittier. The first postmaster was Capt. Wm Hurlbut who arrived from San Francisco on February 9th, 1848. On November 15th, 1850 the Post Office building burned down and was rebuilt with frame construction by Jno Ewing Underwood which served until 1880 when it also burned down again. A new Post Office Building (the current one) opened on October 8th, 1903 and currently serves as the seat of government for Imperial County. It has been described as "one of America's most beautiful post offices".
