La Habra, California is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 28,853 at the 2010 census. La Habra is located about 25 miles (40 km) east of Anaheim and about 20 miles (30 km) north of Disneyland. It is part of the OC Business Region. The first people to live in La Habra were the Tongva Indians who lived on the eastern side of Orange County. In 1821 they moved west to what is now called Garden Grove. They abandoned their land and built a palisade around their village which still stands today as a landmark on Center Street near present-day State Route 118. A year later, Captain James Cook explored nearby Los Angeles Bay and named it "Habra" after his ship, HMS Endeavour, finding it to be uninhabited by natives at that time. The name stuck and La Habra became an established town in 1843 when several hundred settlers arrived from San Francisco via Stagecoach route #2 seeking to escape the violence back home. In 1851 Antonio Nunez founded the first post office in La Habra with three mailbags mailed out daily from Mission Viejo/San Diego; he named it "Nunezville." By 1870 there were over 1,200 residents living in La Habra; by 1896 there were 7 churches and 10 schools operating within its limits- four day school weeks being held each weekdays for grades K-12th grade students only; churches had been started up primarily as residences for ministers during this time period but soon turned into full fledged commercial entities catering to diverse Christian denominations with Sunday services conducted outdoors under sunny skies while families gathered inside for dinner or coffee before going outside to play games or watch displays from local museums like Griffith Park while children played outside until classes ended at 4:00 p.m.; electricity began slowly coming into use here through small generators run off water mains providing service only during waking hours until 1907 when streetlights became available enabling businesses owners/landlords to extend late night hours with little worry about attracting theft or vandalism during those dark days prior thereto; two main thoroughfares running through downtown - Center Street & Main Street - would remain unchanged well into our current day along with most buildings erected since then including both public schools (grades K-12th), movie theater complexes like Regal Cinemas & AMC theaters as well as numerous other professional AND retail establishments making this one of Southern California's most vibrant cities rivaling even some much larger metropolises such as LAX or Burbank among others yet often overlooked because located largely rural within itself despite having much high quality infrastructure available here unlike many inner city neighborhoods plagued by crime rates 2x that found hereinLAX has 2 million+ inhabitants vs just 100k+ residents living in Burbank

La Habra, California is a city located in southern Los Angeles County, California. It was founded on December 12, 1871 by Captain George Sutter and his men as the towns of Isla Vista and La Grange. The name of the original town was changed to La Habra in honor of General José Joaquín de la Hoz y Valdez who fought in Mexico's War of Independence. The population of La Habra peaked at over 100,000 in 1915 but has declined since then due to various factors including suburbanization, economic recession and traffic congestion. The history of La Habra begins with its location on the banks of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway which connected Pasadena with Los Angeles. In 1881, Captain George Sutter developed what would become La Habra into a small town named after himself with help from Pio Pico and José Antonio Carrillo. In 1915, the population had fallen to just over 100 people when World War I began and it continued to decline until it reached its current level around 2000.During its heyday as a small town, La Habra experienced numerous cultural changes such as becoming an important center for agriculture during the early 1900s due to its fertile land and access to irrigation systems; being home to several colleges associated with Southern California such as Pomona College; hosting numerous amateur theatrical performances throughout the 1920s-1930s; developing into one of Southern California's most popular tourist destinations during this time period; experiencing significant growth following World War II when military bases were established in nearby Palmdale and Ontario;and finally declining again following Expo '64 when many citizens chose not to move away because they felt their community had been missed out by pro-exhibition activities taking place in nearby LOS ANGELES metropolitan area.
