The La Canada Flintridge Museum of Optics and Technology has a collection of scopes dating back to the early 1800s. Some of these soldiers were members of the 5th Infantry Division who set up shop at El Toro Marine Corps Base in 1940 using old surplus military telescopes that had been stored there since World War I. One such telescope was an 8x56mm Meade GABI microscope designed by Edwin Hubble Jr., which helped identify objects billions of miles away with clarity and accuracy that would not have been possible with other types of optics at that time In 1945, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Don Sutton used an 8x94mm refractor lens bought secondhand from a British astronomer named Arthur Eddington for use on his television broadcasts from Chavez Ravine Park near LA

La Canada Flintridge is a community in Riverside County, California, United States. It was established in 1881 as part of the San Bernardino Rancho State Park. The population was 7,554 at the 2010 census. La Canada Flintridge is between Interstate 10 and Interstate 15 on the east side of Riverside County and just north of Arroyo Seco Creek on the west side. The area now known as La Canada Flintridge was first populated by Native Americans who lived there for thousands of years before European settlement began. The first European to visit this location was José Gomez de la Hoz, captain general of New Spain's Mexican Empire in 1769-1770. He named the area after his homeland, La Canaria ( Canary Islands). In 1881, landowner John Sutter leased 2,000 acres (10 km2) from Mexican Governor Manuel Micheltorena to James Purdy for $100 per year with an option to purchase additional land at $120 per year. On November 9, 1882, Purdy built a log cabin called "Purdy's Fort" on what would become La Canada Flintridge. By 1888, Purdy had developed it into a small town with a post office and six stores. In 1912-1913, he also built a schoolhouse and barn in what is now the downtown core of La Canada Flintridge. In 1951-1952 when Southern California experienced rapid growth due to newly opened channels along the Colorado River resulting in more people moving into communities such as Riverside County - La Canada Flintridge became one of those areas hardest hit by this movement because its undeveloped land contributed little value in comparison to nearby housing developments already present within our county limits at that time including Jurupa Valley and Cathedral City."
