The La Canada Flintridge shooting took place on October 1, 2018. It was a mass shooting that left six people dead and thirteen injured. La Canada Flintridge is a small town located in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. La Canada Flintridge is part of the Fresno–Salinas–Bakersfield metropolitan area. The community was founded by Mexicans who arrived in 1848 from central Mexico. It was named after the Creek Indians who had earlier settled in that region. The first post office was established in 1855 and the first store opened in 1860. By 1870, there were six stores and sixty-six households in La Canada Flintridge. The community experienced some growth during World War II as many American servicemen resided there to fight for the country. During that time, many businesses were opened including a gas station and a restaurant which remain today as anchors of the community's economy. In 1957, La Canada Flakeidger approved a plan to build an all-weather track on their property which would later become known as Kern County Racetrack

La Canada Flintridge is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 7,047 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Bernardino–Riverside metropolitan area. La Canada Flintridge was established in 1887 and named after La Canada Creek which flows through it. The community developed around a military post called "Frosty Bottom" on the edge of present-day La Canada Flintridge Lake. A post office was established there in 1887 and remained in operation until it closed in 1945. La Canadienne Creamery opened there in 1895 and became one of the most successful dairy businesses in California. The community was also home to several schools, including Chaffey High School (now Chaffey Middle School), which served students from grades 9 through 12 until 1972 when they moved to Claremont Unified School District. In 1957, La Canadienne merged with another nearby dairy business, Friesian Mills Corporation, to form what would become known as Friesian-La Canadienne Dairy Co., Inc.. In 1969, this company merged with American Dairies Corporation to form what would become known as American Dairy Products Company (ADP). In 1984 ADP acquired Swift Industries plc., an integrated food processing company based in London, England that had been operating under its own name since 1947. Today, many of the original buildings that were used by La Canadienne remain standing within the borders of today's La Canada Flintridge; however, most have been replaced by new structures or are no longer used for their original purposes. The La Canada Flintridge area was founded in 1867 when the American Civil War ended. The town grew around a cotton gin and distillery, and its name comes from the Flintridge Reserve of land east of downtown. In 1903, La Canada Flintridge became an incorporated city.
