The community also developed into an active commercial center with businesses such as a grocery store, post office, hotel, and bar beginning To date there are still many remaining structures from when La Canada Flintridge was first established including: A school house (1857), grocery store (1857), lumberyard (1858), blacksmith shop (1859), sawmill (1860), doctor’s office (1861), mechanic shop (1862), church (1901) and more! Today LaCanada Flintridge remains an active community with plenty of cultural attractions that include several golf courses, restaurants, shopping malls and even one theme park!
La Canada Flintridge was founded in 1881 by John and Emma Flintridge. The village had a population of 25 people when it was founded. In 1915, the US Postal Service established La Canada as the second post office in California after San Francisco. The post office closed in 1957, but La Canada continued to serve as a bedroom community for residents of nearby San Bernardino until its closure in 1984. The site is now used for agricultural purposes.
