Castilla also provided free water and electricity to improve agricultural production within the fledgling community while also providing financial assistance important for early settlers such as John Ahern who operated a flour millinery business on Ontario Avenue between Seventh Street and Euclid Avenue from 1886 until 1912; Ahern's son Harry ran another flour millinery business next door on Eighth Street from 1916 until his death in 1984;[2] Asa Hutchinson opened Hutchins Drug Store on First Street between Ontario Avenue and Euclid Avenue in 1919;[3]and finally John Sutter opened Sutter Seed Farms near present day Plymouth Drive on Walnut Creek Road between Third Street and FourthStreet from 1928 until his death in 1998.[4] In 1951-1952 two flights carrying American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin landed at Laguna Beach Naval Air Station just north of present day Laguna Honda Hills - Armstrong becoming only the second human being after Grady Culls Toombs during Mercury 11 mission when he became pilot #2; Aldrin becoming first American black astronaut with flight experience beyond Earth orbit when he served as backup landing gear man during Gemini III mission three months later followed by Apollo 11 mission five days later - both men returning safely home!
