Kingsburg, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 3,714 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Joaquin River east of Bakersfield and north of Fresno. The town was founded in 1887 by prospectors led by John Kingsbury. Kingsburg became a ghost town after gold was discovered in 1901. Kingsburg's history begins with John Kingsbury who started out as a prospector in 1887. He soon realized that he had found some great gold deposits near what is now Kingham, Kern County. In 1901, John and his brother-in-law William Troup homesteaded land around the discovery site and renamed it Kingsburg after their home state of Kentucky (John's father had been born there). The Gold Rush of 1901 brought many people to Kingsburg including miners, farmers, ranchers and other businesses who contributed to its growth over the years. In 1911, local post office operated from an old cabin until it moved into a new building which still stands today on Main Street in Kingham. The first telephone service arrived here in 1912! During World War II, Kingsburg served as an important military base due to its location on the San Joaquin River east of Bakersfield and north of Fresno (the main route for supplying troops with food and ammunition). After the war ended in 1945, many businesses closed down or were sold off but some remain such as Ford’s Department Store which reopened in 1951 after being closed for several decades. In 1977, Kaintner Air Force Base opened here providing employment for many locals during peacetime while also serving as a staging area for USAF jets when needed elsewhere in Southern California or Nevada; this eventually came to an end following the end of hostilities there in 1991 AD. Today most jobs available here are related to agriculture or ranching although there are some light industry options such as manufacturing tools or clothing products outside of farming/rancher activities These days much of what used to make up downtown Kingsburg has either been abandoned or converted into housing units; however there are still remnants such as Pioneer Hall which once housed a flour mill used by Grains Incorporated before they relocated away from this area circa 1950 AD making way for modern day shopping malls like Kmart Supercenter etc.; alluding back again to one possible reason behind why this particular community remained active throughout these various changes: its close proximity to larger populated areas like Bakersfield & Fresno both well known industrial centers at that time
