The town was founded in 1887 by Mormons who had come from Utah. The population increased rapidly following World War II when the nearby Hanford Nuclear Plant became a major center for plutonium production. The plant closed in 1986, butKingsburg has continued to grow as a result of its proximity to the plant and its status as an agriculturaltown. Today, Kingsburg is a small town with a population of around 1,000 people. It is home to the Kingsburg Museum, which contains exhibits on local history and culture; the Kingsburgh Community Library; and the Kingsburgh Volunteer Fire Department. Kingsburg, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is located on State Route 99 south of Bakersfield. Kingsburg has been inhabited by the Mono people since 1821 and by the Kumeyaay people from 1769 to 1849. The first white person to live in Kingsburg was J. H. Payne in 1856. He bought some land east of what is now town center from George Peevey and built a store and home there. Payne's store became the nucleus of what would become Kingsburg when other settlers began arriving in the area beginning in the early 1850s. In 1871, James Waddell arrived in Kingsburg and platted it as a town under his own name with help from John Sutter for whom he worked on building Sutter's Mill on the banks of the San Joaquin River near present-day downtown Kingsbury (now part of Bakersfield). Waddell named his new town after himself, James H., which he had earlier named Eureka after two gold mines near that location (the first discovery being made December 12, 1848). In 1889, due to an earthquake that struck Kern County much closer to where we are today, parts of Eureka were destroyed including Waddell's Store which still stands today across Main Street from King's Cafe (formerly known as Ruby’s Cafe) - both buildings were rebuilt following natural disasters throughout Californias history! During World War II Kingsburg played host to military installations including Fort Bragg and Camp Roberts within its boundaries; these locations are no longer extant but their memories remain well-preserved through photos and artifacts preserved at nearby museums such as Fort Bragg Museum & Resource Center and Camp Roberts Museum & Resource Center respectively After World War II, many families moved out of this small farming community into larger cities such as Fresno or Bakersfield making way for more industry development . However due to tight housing prices throughout Kern County during this time period few have found permanent residency here outside of visiting or holiday travel . Today many descendants thereof still reside here within our county limits while others continue their journey westward via Interstate 5 or Interstate 80
Kingsburg was founded in 1869 by Judge George H. Kingsbury and his brother-in-law, John C. Moffett. The town was named after the Kingsbury Ranch on which it was located. It began to grow rapidly as a result of its location on the railroad and its access to water resources. In 1882, Kingsburg voters passed a resolution declaring themselves an incorporated town. In 1907, the town developed a hydroelectric plant to provide power for lights and streetcars in the small community. The plant closed in 1966, but provided employment for many people until it closed down completely in 1984.
