Bullets in Kingsburg, California date back to the 1860s. The first bullets were made in 1875 by Captain John A. McConnell of the First Regiment California Volunteers. McConnell was responsible for creating and arming the regiment that served in the Mexican-American War. After that war, bullet manufacture continued to increase and become more common in California. In 1905, a company named Byers & Co., which was founded by two brothers named Byers and their cousin Harvey Byers, began producing Bullets at a factory located on Commerce Street in Kingsburg. The bullets became known as J&H Bullets because of their manufacturers, James H. Johnson and Harry J. Hillman. In 1922, a new company called American Arms Manufacturing Company was established in Kingsburg with the goal of manufacturing high quality ammunition for both military and sporting purposes across all types of firearms including rifles, pistols, shotguns, revolvers and machine guns. American Arms produced cartridges with lead cores that allowed them to fire shot distances up to 100 yards without damage or loss of power due to ricochet off other objects within range
