In 1902, part of Kings Canyon National Park was designated as part of Fresno County; however, even before that date much development had taken place withinKingCity limits due to both agricultural produce production (especially rice) which made it an important center for trade and transportation on Highway 99W between Fresno and San Francisco; as well as new residential developments built on either side of Highway 99W such as Northridge (now known as Crescent Heights), Eastvale (later known as Westvale), Sunnyside (now known as Noel Avenue), etc., making it one of largest shopping destinations for farmers markets outside of Northern California King City experienced rapid growth following World War II when many manufacturing jobs left central California for war-time production states such as Michigan or Pennsylvania In later years many service sectors have developed including health care providers Kaiser Permanente Medical Center & Clinics/Clinique d’Orthopedic Hospital; Home Depot ; Verizon Wireless ; Wells Fargo Bank ; among others Kings Canyon National Park became fully operational on October 1st 2006 adding 375 acres (190 hectares) to Kings Canyon National Monument creating one more park unit within Fresno County alone! In 1924, part of what is now downtown King City was designated as a national historic district called Kingsborough Heights due to its significance in early California history and architecture including several extant brick buildings dating back to that time period: The Old Capitol Building (1824), Masonic Temple (1898), and First National Bank Building (1915). In 1933–34*, Mayor Jerald McDonald developed plans for redevelopment which would eventually include the construction of two new high schools: Stonington School District High School - opened in 1935 - and Northridge Elementary School - opened in 1936; both facilities are still used today by their respective school districts. *This refers to former Mayor Jerald McDonald's "Greenlight Plan", which called for various changes to be made to downtown King City without prior approval from then-Mayor George Moscone
