In 1861, Captain John Sutter discovered gold near what is now Fresno and decided to come to look for it. He named his new settlement "King City" after Emperor Frederick II of Germany who had granted him land east of San Francisco Bay for an agricultural colony (Fresno had been founded by Spanish missionaries in 1769). That same year, American troops under General Grant invaded Spain’s colonies in Mexico and sacked Mexico City; when they reached King City, they found all but one building destroyed because of an outbreak of cholera that season. Gold mining began at Kings Canyon Creek soon afterwards and quickly became successful due to easy access to water transportation routes; during 1850–1860 alone, 2 million pounds (910 metric tons) of gold were mined here including 400 claims by Chinese miners working for American capitalists interested in exploiting cheap labor during that period of rapid economic growth throughout California’s Central Valley region The town prospered until 1872 when there was a great fire which destroyed most everything within 5 blocks radius including churches, schools and residences From then until World War II around 60% of all federal government jobs were done here including 40% of military work required outside Northern California Today few people remain within downtown except occasional retail shopping or office workers making small incomes off their businesses located along K Street near Interstate 580

King City is a small city located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 3,831 at the 2000 census. As of the 2010 census, it had fallen to 2,591. King City was named after manifest destiny proponent and U.S. President James K. Polk who proclaimed in 1846 that this area would become an agricultural power center due to its rich soil and water resources. The town began as a small farming community with only about 100 residents in 1852 when gold were discovered on the nearby hillsides. The discovery led to increased development along railroad lines which brought more people and businesses into town and also created new opportunities for industry such as mining, tanning, brewing, lumbering and agriculture (farming became less common). With growth came difficulties for Mayor John Fenton who tried to keep things affordable for all while ensuring good public services were available to everyone living in the town including schools, policing and firefighting; he was successful but faced resistance from powerful business interests who saw their influence grow within King City because of its proximity to major markets and mines. In 1908 King City joined forces with other towns in central California to form Kingsville during statewide efforts by Governor Hiram Johnson to stimulate economic growth throughout California through local initiative (the first such effort in America). At the time it was one of several communities across the state that had taken part in what became known as "The Great Fire of Oakland" which destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses on April 15th, 1908 during a heat wave caused by drought conditions across Northern California. Despite being one of many communities hit hard by this devastating event, King City regained some lost ground over ensuing years as new housing developments replaced those destroyed by fire or natural disasters (although much still remains loss-ridden from pre-World War II days). In 1916 voters decided not to annex Shasta County so that King City would remain independent although annexation proposals have been made again since then – something that has yet to happen despite persistent talk from city officials about gaining county status (despite significant opposition from business owners). King City is a city in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 24,672 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sonoma County and the largest city on the east coast of Northern California. The name "King City" was given to it by General George Custer during his 1876 campaign for Ulysses S. Grant's candidature as President of the United States. The first permanent settlers in King City were three men from Vermont: John Fitzpatrick, James Fenton and Antoine Vail who arrived on July 12, 1847. They built a small adobe cabin on what is now known as Creek Street between Second and Third Streets. A post office was established at King City on October 5, 1851 and operated under the name "Creekville". In 1863, Michael Jordon bought land adjacent to present day Creek Street and founded Jordan Valley Ranch which included 350 acres (1 km2). He startedraise horses there before moving them to Cloverdale in 1868 where he sold them for $800 per head to local farmers. In 1870 he purchased an additional 350 acres (1 km2) adjoining present day creek Road from Charles Hutton for $8 per acre ($40 per hectare). From this land he developed a small farming community with around 20 homes that relied primarily upon irrigation water supplied by nearby reservoirs. In 1911 when King City incorporated as a town, its only business was selling gasoline and lubricants out of their one-room station located at Fourth Street and Main Avenue
