The King City Pistol Club was founded on October 15, 1903 by John W. King and Alfred J. Hargrave in the small town of King City, California. The club's first meeting was held at the home of Wm. Dickey, a local farmer. In 1905, the club moved to its present location at 257 County Road 18 in King City. The club continued to meet regularly until 1942 when it disbanded due to World War II regulations which limited pistol shooting to men over 21 years of age only.

The name "King City" was given to it by Captain John C. Frémont during his exploration of southeastern California in 1849. The area that now makes up King City was first settled by Native Americans in the late eighteenth century. A mission called San Francisco Javier was founded here in 1827, and then Mission Santa Ana grew up around it. In 1851, Rancho Las Palmas was sold to José Castro and Hilario Covarrubias, two Californios who had come from Mexico as part of the Gold Rush. Instead, they discovered oil reserves under nearby hills that would later be developed into what is now known as King City Oil Field. In 1865, another Californian named Augustus Saint-Gaudens bought Rancho Las Palmas from Covarrubias and began developing it into a large agricultural center with irrigation systems and market gardens. He named it after himself – King City (or Californios Rey de América). King City was founded on November 17, 1836 by the brothers John and James Morrison. The town was named for King George III of England, who had approved the Donation of $5,000 to start the town. The first post office opened in 1837. The first store was a dry goods store called the General Store. In 1840, a sawmill and gristmill were built in King City. A cotton gin followed in 1849. In 1861, King City became an independent city with its own government. It had a population of around 1,500 people when it joined the city Limits League of California. On October 26, 1872, King City incorporated as a city with a population of 10,000 people. In 1915-16, King City Stadium was built on what is now Worth Avenue to house the King City Soccer Club and other sports organizations. In 1924-25 it became known as "The Mecca" for home games featuring Sacramento football team; later renamed "Anchor Park". On January 20th 1907 Mayor Samuel Sutter proposed that California annexling Oregon into California so that both states could have more direct access to water resources needed for their agricultural societies respectively; however this proposal met with resistance from Oregon's Governor John K cannon due to his belief that annexation would dilute state sovereignty over its citizens which he felt would result in lower taxation rates for Californians whileicating an increase in Oregon's wealth at the expense of Californians' tax burden (the latter argument being upheld after Cannon's death). Ultimately Cannon's opposition caused no action but failed to gain support from either side among influential officials such as then-Governor Hiram Johnson or then-Secretary of State Elihu Root who saw annexation as favorable business opportunity). This failure led directly to Johnsons efforts two years later during his second term as governor to pass legislation creating agencies within each state within which local governing bodies could be formed including one for Portland County - also resulting in no action being taken by either Johnson or Root despite public opinion favoring annexation (the last time this occurred was when Johnson signed legislation giving Kings Canyon National Recreation Area status)). After becominggovernor Reagan offered his administration's plan called Plan B which aimed at annexing most if not all southern Oregon without any formal action - again meeting resistance from Cannon but succeeding in getting some measure through both houses before being vetoed by then-Governor Brown) - leading ultimately to plans being filed with Congress but never taking effective effect due to lobbying by Republican members of both houses along with private donations (most notably oilman Edward Mudd). Finally on December 13th 1988 after almost five years languishing in committee awaiting confirmation from both Houses following allegations surrounding political influence by federal agents regarding oil exploration rights near Kings Canyon) - finally taking effect upon passage by both Houses and signature from President George H W Bush) – making Kings Canyon part of Nevada
