In 1912, King City residents voted to become part of the newly created Kings Canyon National Park and became one of its first municipalities. By 1920, when it merged with nearby Cottonwood to form Kings Canyon National Park District #1 (later renamed Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument), King City had reached its current size – including both Spring Valley Rd., which forms its northern border and remains today a key commercial artery through the park district’s core area (containing much of present-day King City), and Cottonwood Ave., which makes up most of its southern border The 20th century saw many significant events take place in or around Kings Canyon National Park: such as construction on Mount Whitney in 1935; completion in 1951 of the world’s first major pipeline crossing within park boundaries; establishment by park officials in 1966 of two visitor centers—one near Vernal Summit within east-central Kings Canyon NP (and later moved there), while another opened at Sawtooth Lake within north central GANP (now located adjacent to Butte County Airport). In recent years there has been increasing interest from developers who see potential for increased development inside or adjacent to park boundaries including those centered around Vernal Summit Visitors Center just east off State Route 93A and Sawtooth Lake Visitors Center just south off SR 89A outside downtown King City

The stones were so valuable that JohnSutter began selling them off piecemeal to miners until he had enough money put together to buy his own land at what is now the heart of downtown King City today. By 1862, King City had become one of the mostimportant Gold Rush towns in America because it was home to some of the biggest mining companies in operation: Consolidated Mines (later Pacific Gold), First National Bank (later Huntington National Bank), and Nevada Telegraph Company (later Western Union). These companies helped spur economic growth throughout central Kern County and contributed significantly to kingcity's early prominence as a major center for commerce and industry! In 1902, when Kingsville merged with other nearby towns to form Kingsville, it quickly emerged as one of California's most important cities! With its busy commercial district full of businesses such as banks, restaurants, theaters – all under one roof – Kingsville quickly became anhubof activity for locals and visitors alike! During its years as part of Kingsville’s namesake community – from 1852-2002 – KingCity saw tremendous progress both professionally AND personally . . . creating many legendary namesakes who have forever impacted our cityscape! From pioneering businesspeople like Mr.. James Jarrell(founder/CEO/President Emeritusof Jarrell Companies)to iconic athletes like Jerry Rice( Sr./Jr.)and Willie Mays( Sr./Jr.), KCS has seen plenty o’ goodbyes over time but also plenty o’ success story keepers too! King City was founded in 1849 by Captain James F. King and his partners, Hiram A. Babcock and Benjamin H. Fuller. The town was named for George M. King, who had sold land to the founders. In 1861, the town became a railroad junction when the Southern Pacific Railroad completed its line from Sacramento to Stockton. The town's population boomed during the 1870s due to increased production of crops such as cotton and corn; however, it declined during the 1890s as a result of competition from larger cities in California. In 1912, King City merged with other nearby towns to form City of Industry; however, this merger did not last long because Industry's population growth led it to Again compete with larger cities for jobs and tax dollars. In 1949, King City regained its independent status when it merged with neighboring city of Redding; however, this merger did not last long because Redding's population growth led it to again compete with larger cities for jobs and tax dollars.
