King City is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 25,362 at the 2010 census. The King City post office served the city from 1881 to 1961. The first settlers of what would become King City were three brothers, Wm. H., John and Jacob Simons who arrived on July 3, 1879 from Vermont. They founded a small cabin near present-day downtown King City and began growing crops and raising livestock. In 1882 they erected a frame store/ warehouse on the south side of town which continues to be active as a business today. In 1886, two brothers by the name of Stephenson purchased land north of town from the Simons family for $1 an acre (later increased to $2). They named their new community “King City” after Andrew Johnson Kiddle III who had been President of the United States in 1886 and had championed western settlement in California. As development continued within King City limits, additions include: A blacksmith shop in 1907 which became known as "the White House"; an elevator built by George Sinton; two hotels – The First National Bank building opened in 1912 & Register Building opened in 1914; numerous residences including many that still stand today such asHandleman’s Block; Masonic Hall & Lodge #5 was dedicated on November 5th 1921 by Masonic Commandery No 8 & current day headquarters of Masons throughout Southern California In 1951 it was announced that the old Robinson Drug Store location would be demolished due to its age & sagging condition but fortunately for those living adjacent thereto it has not come down since! A large fire destroyed much of downtown Kingsville on Christmas Eve 1936 when several hundred people were living therein surrounded by burning buildings

King City is a small, agricultural town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit King City were Spanish soldiers who on February 14, 1821, built Fort Nuñez de la Hoz on the east side of present-day King City Road. A mission was founded in 1822 by Father José Pico and named San Francisco de Asís after the then British colony of Hong Kong. On July 12, 1823 the Mexican government granted Rancho Niguel to Juan Bautista Alvarado for use as a grazing land grant with permission to build homes and outbuild cattle ranching operations. Alvarado built a small adobe home in what is now King City and called it Villa Real de las Californias (Royal Villa). The name may have been inspired by Spanish Queen Victoria's title of "Villa Real" which refers both to her royal status as well as Spain's former claim to California following Mexican independence from Spain in 1821. On January 16, 1850, when Mexico became an American republic under President Don Antonio López Juárez y Costilla, King City became part of Mexicali County within newly created Riverside County with its own sheriff and register of deeds. However Mexico never took possession of California but rather administered it through what are now Orange and Riverside counties until 1889 when it was replaced by the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended the Mexican–American War. In 1919 King City incorporated as a city under State law 2069 (4) because its population had surpassed 2,000 people for the first time since incorporation papers were filed two years earlier; however this did not constitute progress or economic development because no streetlights were put up or sidewalks laid until 1958 when Mayor John Fenton installed Municipal Services Corporation lights on Main Street throughout town center except for library areas where electric lighting would be introduced later that year due to increased business hours caused by World War II veterans returning home after serving in various combat theaters around the country including Japan and Europe In 1959 another group made an offer for 9 acres (3 hectares) near Main Street corner Indian Wells Drive between Florence Avenue and Earle Road being offered at $10 per acre ($ per foot), even though there was no water availablehooked up to any public lines or wells until 1959 also due to increased business hours caused by World War II veterans returning home after serving in various combat theaters around
King City was founded in 1849 by Captain James Folsom. It became a town in 1850, and then a city in 1878.
