King City is a small town in the east side of San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1847 by John King and his brother-in-law, Moses Waddell, who named it for their father-in-law, James Kelling. The first post office in King City was established on July 1, 1847. The first settler in King City was George Aiken who arrived on May 12th, 1848. In 1850, Captain Fenton moved from Maine to start a rancho at what is now First and Mission Streets. He had four boys - Peter Fenton (1851), John Fenton (1853), Franklin Fenton (1855) and Job Fenton (1857). They all started out working together but soon differences began to surface between them about how much work should be done and what should be done for entertainment purposes only - not for agriculture or defense! John King married Anna Maria Carew on July 8th, 1849 and they continued farming until 1860 when they built a cabin near present day Post Office Square. This became their home until they sold it to Mr. & Mrs. Ethel Gee in 1924 which still stands today as one of the few buildings left standing from that time period in King City history! Their children were: Bertha Jean Gee (1927-) Mrs. Hildebrandt Becker (1930-) Dr. Edmund Becker Jr.(1958-) Reverend Harry Sibley(1965-) Revocation Harry Sibley(1968-) In 1961 Nancy Leland Keyser visited this small town during her honeymoon visiting her family back East before she married Congressman Jerry Lewis Later that year Nancy gave birth to their son Christopher Lewis Keyer born February 3rd 1967 who would later become State Senator from Monterey County
