In 1932, Orange County was divided into two parts: Southern Orange County and Northern Orange County. The new county had no business district within it and so no town could be incorporated within it without adopting a new name for themselves (though some did), so Anaheim became the first cities in Southern California to adopt a new name when they adopted Anaheim Hills as their new name in 1934. In 1965, when Riverside became part of Los Angeles County, Anaheim annexed that city’s portion of Northern Orange County making it officially part of Orange County again. In 1971, Disneyland opened its doors and quickly made Anaheim one of the most popular tourist destinations in Southern California; due to this growth came rapid development around both Downtown Irvine as well as other nearby areas includingchatfield Valley Regional Park which has since been renamed “Disneyland Park” after the park’s owner Disney Company purchased much land surrounding it in 1986; Ohtani Stadium & Event Center which replaced Honda Stadium where the LA Dodgers played their last game before moving to Chavez Ravine; Cesar Chavez College & Main Street Station which also served as(and still does) a shopping center for Corona/Citrus Heights residents until 2002 when Measure M pass by voters approved building a second light rail line running parallel to monorail tracks between Disneyland Resort & Newport Beach mall) bringing jobs and more retail stores directly into Downtown Irvine thus reversing previous patterns seen throughout southern OC over many decades starting with annexation by Anaheim then being developed by those same developers who brought industry directly into DowntownIrvine
