Inglewood is located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population of Inglewood was 61,648 at the 2000 census. It is a city and county seat of Inyo County. The first white people to live in what is now Inglewood were ranch hands who came overland from central Mexico in 1848. They named their new community Forks of the Arrow, after a bend in the Santa Monica River where they had seen game. The name was changed to Inyo Station in 1850 because there were no other places called Inyo until that time. In 1864, General Don Carlos Manuel Lara peaceably took possession of Rancho Cucamonga from Mexican claimants and founded Phinney Ridge on the east side of town (now west end of South High Street). This gave rise to one common misconception about both Inglewood's founding and its current status; that it was part of Los Angeles County only when it became an incorporated city; this is not true at all! In 1868, John Sutter arrived from Sacramento with his brother-in-law, David Hancock, and bought land near what is now downtown Inglewood for $5 per acre ($60 total). They named their new settlement Sutterville after themselves. There were few settlers by 1870 because most had gone south to join the American Civil War effort. When hostilities ended however, many returned home and resumed farming operations around Forks of the Arrow onetime known as “The Gold Rush Town” due primarily to its rich quartz veins found north and northwest Of town along Ranchero Road (present day Elysian Heights Boulevard). During World War II much OF G Park ammo production took place within or adjacent neighborhood including El Segundo & Kings Canyon National Parks while munitions storage buildings can still be seen at upper level behind Walmart across Willowbrook Drive off Enterprise Lane--just east of I-405/I-10 junction! Manufacturing activity stopped again following war but has recently restarted at nearby Northridge Ammunition Factory which closed down in early 2016 amidst rising litigation costs associated with environmental asbestos exposure lawsuits filed against several companies manufacturing munitions there including Brownells Inc., Magna Carta Arms Company Inc., Bushmaster Firearms Corporation
