The town's incorporation took place on April 6, 1860 under the name Parkfield; however, it continued to use its original spelling until November 3rd 1870 when it became part of La Habra as part of a merger between these two towns as part of mayor Manuel Gomez's effort to create a more centralized government control over southernLos Angeles County The growth of South central Los Angeles during this time led to heavy development around Olympic Boulevard and State Street with little attention given to what would happen northward along Wexler Avenue since that road served primarily as an artery linking downtown LA with suburban neighborhoods like Encino Hills and Sylmar Valley “Industrial growth sprawled like weeds across Wexler Avenue… [But] because La Habra had always been an agricultural town center surrounded by citrus orchards, there wasn’t much industry until about 1910 when oil rigs started up alongside Interstate 10 outside West Covina” (Gomez). When city planners responded to this new reality they created a network of arterial streets running east-west through southcentralLA that would eventually become known as “the Corridor” One major reason why SouthcentralLA didnt get much attention during this time frame was because oil production didnt take off until after World War II when companies began looking for ways inlandto ship their product due North America being closed off during that war .
