Lieutenant Colonel Augustus McCrary masterminding these transactions observed that “the employment which must hereafter be given them will have something like an organization: each man will know what he has to do; no one will be left behind without assistance” (McCrary). This indicates that handguns were being smuggled into California for official duty or personal protection purposes at this time. One such individual who played an important role in importing handguns into California during this era was Isaac Brockman who resided at 9331 S Western Ave., Suite CIrgina City CA 90024 At this address Brockman traded arms with Manuel Gomez Martinez alias Don Jose Gomez de la Rosa y Menendez y Galdos alias el Zorro Blanca including pistols and revolver ammunition directly with Mexico for goods necessary for its army garrisoned at San Fernando Valley under Governor José Figueroa Castro between December 1861 & May 1865 inclusive (Brockman Deposition #2 pp1-2). It should also be noted that Brockman had previously been active as a Ubered Arms Dealer working out of 7012 S Western Ave., Suite A in Pasadena prior to his establishment as a dealer dealing exclusively in firearms and ammunition through mail order only) .
