Frémont discovered new land to the east of San Francisco Bay and named it “Imperial” after himself, Emperor of China at that time. The following year, Ulysses S. Grant became President of the United States and ordered General James K. Polk to take control of California for America because there were no Mexican nationals living in or under its jurisdiction (except for some military personnel). General Polk did not want any more territory handed over to Mexico without an agreement being reached between them about how it would be divided among themselves since he believed that if America gained control of all this new territory,Mexico would become too powerful and might try to secede from our country altogether! He therefore negotiated with Mexican president Vicente Guerrero who agreed to give up all but 2 million acres (8% of Californias total land area) in exchange for American citizenship and access to railroad transportation across Mexico (which they did not yet have). This deal was known as the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended hostilities between both countries while also giving Mexicans voting rights in presidential elections until 1912. Shortly thereafter, American forces invadedMexican territory again during the Mexican Revolution which resulted in over 100,000 Mexicans killed or exiled across our country by warring factions including many soldiers loyal to General Polk/President Guerrero! After years of turmoil and bloodshed along with economic hardship for Mexicans living inside America due to Prohibition laws enacted by President Taft),the Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo was finally formalized on February 14th 1912 through resolution by Congress confirming that Americans could live & work freely within Mexican borders but still maintain their legal title thereto & should never be considered subjects thereof! This event marked also the end of Annexation Periods where different regions within Mexico were granted separate administrations & laws based on population size instead thereof-a process known formally as Pueblo Ejecutivo during Porfirio Diaz’s rule (& briefly revived under Chávez thru his Plan de la Unidad en 2002)! Since then numerous other policies & changes have ensued within both countriesresultingin successive wavesof migrationsto&from Imperial County culminatinginTHE 22ND WORD OF JESUS CHRIST!! Today’s residents are descendantsof those original pioneers who originally identified & settled hereabouts back around 1851-1855!
