In the early 1800s, California was still a part of Mexico. The territory was divided between the United States and Mexico on September 14, 1846. On that day, American Samuel Garland shot and killed Mexican general Antonio López de Santa Anna in San Francisco. López de Santa Anna had been seeking independence from Mexico since 1847. A few weeks later, on October 15, 1846, General John C. Fremont arrived in California with his army to help establish a new government. He found that there were no firearms or ammunition available to the Californians so he turned back at Stockton and ordered his army to withdrew eastward. Fremont's force reached Reno on November 11th and decided to winter there instead of continuing their journey westward. A group of Californians took up arms against Fremont in what is known as the Bear Flag Revolt. They were successful in overthrowing him but were quickly subdued by Ulysses S Grant's army two years later when it invaded California again under the command of Major General Don Carlos Manuel Saúl Castro (1810-1887). In 1851-52, after Mexican troops sacked Yountville during the Christmas season – an event which helped spur the Gold Rush – Americans began pouring into California searching for mineral rights and gold bullion potentials. As they arrived they brought with them military surplus firearms that they had acquired while fighting against Mexican forces during the War for Independence (1848-1849). This equipment soon became desired by law enforcement agencies within America as well as foreign powers who coveted control over this newly gained territory (e.g., Great Britain wanted access to San Francisco Bay). Beginning in 1853, several companies produced T-shirts printed with images or slogans associated with firearm use or history within America: Colt's Manufacturing Company; D&H Arms & Ammunition; Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company; Winchester Repeating Arms Company; Pierce Brosnan Firearms Corporation; et al.[1] These companies set out to market their products nationally through various channels such as periodicals such as Harper's Ferry Review[2], newspapers like Sacramento Union[3], magazine articles,[4] rifle shows[5],[6],[7],[8],[9],[10] and occasionally published advertisements in small magazines including Sportsman's Guide Armory [11]. The shirts generally depicted Native Americans wielding firearms against white settlers,[12],[13] Westerners cowboys riding horses through narrow mountain passes,[14]] Indians engaged in battle[15][16], hunting scenes featuring riflesights close up,[17][18] military engagements featuring cannons firing grapeshot projectiles from long distances,[19][20]] cartouches displaying dates/names of active shooters from throughout American history[21],[22], patriotic messages[23]-most commonly "The Gun That Won The West" - or simply a gun being depicted prominently.[24] When prohibitionist laws were passed following President Ulysses S Grant’s Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st 1865,[25]-the availability of firearms for civilians decreased correspondingly across most portions of America due to federal regulation which prohibited anyone without a license from possessing any type of weapon not specifically exempted under Title 26 US Code § 921(a), which regulated “firearms dealers” only those licensed by state governments according to specific regulations promulgated at least six months beforehand (i e., December 1st 1865).[26]) However, because many firearm manufacturers relocated outside more restrictive states like New York City where manufacturing licenses continuedently been available until 1898,[27]) some shotgun enthusiasts continue todayto enjoy shooting matches using antique firearms made prior to Federal Firearms License requirements becoming effective nationwide on July 16th 1934 ([28]). The vast majority of these t-shirt printing operations occurred during late 19th century Republican Party rule in America following Reconstruction vesting all former slaves free upon passage of Thirteenth Amendment race discrimination bans following slavery’s end† [*29];*† subsequently these firms enjoyed bipartisan support† [*30]), although exceptions exist† [*31]:*† For example D&H Arms & Ammunition ceased operations after its founder Henry Mudge died suddenly aged 46 whilst promoting new products *32).[33];*† Goodyear Tire & Rubber continued production until 1951 despite president Franklin D Roosevelt threatening sanctions if company didn't agree not sell munitions used in World War II (*34), while Winchester Repeating Arms Company initially halted production but resumed thereafter after reaching an agreement with NRA(*35) [*36]);*) other firms operating prior thereto are typically noted below.*

However, due to economic fluctuations throughout the 1930s and 1940s%, Imperial experienced increased social unrest which led to several devastating fires that destroyed many homes and businesses throughout 1939-1940). During World War II Empire City was again forced to deal with social unrest as residents fought for food rationing or against military exercises conducted nearby by General Douglas MacArthur . After Japan's surrender in 1945 Emperor city erupted into open rebellion against MacArthur's authority; this uprising ultimately failed but resulted in wide-spread damage within Empire City and left many homeless ().
The history of Imperial, California starts with the arrival of Mexican settlers in 1846. The area that is now Imperial was part of Sonoma County, and Spanish colonists were the first to settle there. They built small Missions and Fort McDowell, which are still standing today. In 1853, a group of Americans arrived in the area, and they named their new settlement after Emperor Pedro Fortunato de la Cruz y Asís, who had just been proclaimed emperor of Mexico. From here, American traders began selling goods from Old Mexico to California. In 1864, when General John C. Fremont explored the Golden State for the United States Army, he passed through Imperial Valley and noted its strategic location as a possible stopping point on his route to Sacramento. By 1870, much of what is now Imperial Valley had been acquired by the United States government as land grants from various Mexican landowners. The town of Imperial was founded on July 14th, 1870 by Colonel Augustus Stonington and his wife Eliza Prentice Grant at an elevation of 5362 feet (1612 meters). At first it consisted only of their house and a fewesteads scattered around its perimeter. The growth of the town led to increased development within its boundaries; by 1881 it had become an incorporated municipality with a population of over 10 thousand people living in twenty-six square miles (39 square kilometers).
