Huntington Park is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 12,442 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Huntington Park was founded in 1887 as a small town named for General George Armstrong Custer. The first post office was established in 1888, and the first settler to arrive in what is now Huntington Park was John Hynes on July 4th, 1887. At that time there were only a few hundred people living within the then-small community near Pasadena. By 1890, over 1,000 settlers had arrived and by 1905 it had grown to an estimated 10,000 residents. The name "Huntington" originated with General George Armstrong Custer's battle during the Mexican–American War where he and his Native American force were engaged against Pancho Villa's forces at Buena Vista Canyon on October 16th, 1881; however no buildings or memorials commemorating this event remain extant today within or adjacent to Huntington Park. In 1892 when Californian William McKinley became President of the United States following Grover Cleveland's inauguration (the first U.S president from California), he announced plans to annex Mexico - including Buena Vista Canyon - into America through executive order #2145 which designated portions of Baja California as Anglo land holdings subject to immigration restrictions under homesteading laws enacted by McKinley himself without Congressional approval or ratification; consequently "Custer Country" became known across America as "Pancho Villa country". Consequently, much of what is now Huntington Park was developed as agricultural land surrounding San Antonio Mesa due east of Pasadena during this time period; such development included: Don Valley Parkway/I-10 interchange (now US-101), present day Old Town Pasadena neighborhoods bounded by I-10/I-5 southbound on the west side = Temple Place eastward on the north side = North El Paso Road northeast corner = 6th Ave SW between North El Paso Rd./6th Ave SW & Temple Place NW = Elmhurst Avenue SE corner = East Gate Boulevard SE corner + old power plant site lot located just south of 5th Ave SW between East Gate Blvd./East Gate Boulevard & Southgate Dr., now home to Arcadia High School In 1924 local movie mogul Samuel Goldwyn purchased 2 percent interest in Paramount Pictures Corporation from its founder Jesse Lasky for $1 million dollars and thereafter built Paramount Ranch which encompassed many acres of western Orange County adjoining Hollywood Studios before becoming one of Hollywood's most exclusive estates immediately adjacent thereto comprising approximately 100 acres along Hollywood Way making it one of Los Angeles' original suburban areas adjacent thereto containing residences therein including: Hancock Drive/Rodeo Drive today’s Ventura Freeway (SR 15) running concurrently through former ranch lands separating Laurel Canyon from Sycamore Canyon with access road leading thence via former studio property line easterly to Watts Avenue past Glendale Heights into West LA interior herein incorporated early 1935 into Republic National City National Bank general store complex called “Goldwyn Plaza” thenceforth commonly known simply as Goldwyn Plaza until sold subsequent annexation resultant conversion thereof into City Of Industry effective January 7TH 1959 pursuant To Section 8(a) Of The Charter Of The City OF Industry Incorporation therefore eliminating all reference thereto except specific location hereinof contained within boundaries demarcated thereby
