Huntington Park, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 33,752 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Riverside and Orange counties. The city's name comes from its location on the banks of the Rialto River within easy walking distance of both historical sites and shopping areas. Huntington Park was founded in 1876 by George Withers as a small agricultural community on what is now eastside of downtown Huntington Park. In 1915, when the City of San Bernardino annexed part of southern Riverside County, it became part of new San Bernardino County. In 1927, when the City of Pasadena annexed eastern Orange County (including parts of Huntington Park), Huntington Park became an incorporated town with its own government and police force under the jurisdiction of that municipality. In 1957, after annexation by Pasadena, Huntington Park again became an incorporated town with its own government under that municipality's jurisdiction; however, it continued to be administered as a separate municipality until 1978 when it merged into Pasadena's municipal government. The town had a population of about 1,500 people and was originally named after Mr. Huntington’s mill in nearby Big Bear Lake. In 1916, the name was changed to Huntington Park after J.P. Huntington, the founder and first president of the company now known as Philip Morris USA Incorporated (PMUSA). Huntington Park continued to grow during World War II due to its strategic location on Route 65 between Ontario and Riverside counties. The park hosted many patriotic events such as an air-raid warning drill in 1942 and a V-E Day parade in 1945. After the war ended, Huntington Park experienced rapid growth with new development being undertaken throughout the 1960s and 1970s including several shopping malls, a water park, and a professional baseball stadium called The Huntington Stadium which is still used today as part of the Proctor & Gamble Ballpark Complex. During this time period, there were also some major changes taking place at PMUSA including their absorption into BATCO Corporation (now Unilever) which led to increased competition among both private companies and government agencies for resources within PMUSA itself. As such, it can be said that Huntston Park underwent one significant change during this time – from an agricultural community focused on agriculture to one that became increasingly multinationalized through its incorporation into BATCO Corporation

Huntington Park was founded in 1887 by George W. Huntington and his wife Anna Ladd Calhoun as a small town on the site of what is now the intersection of State Route 27 and Ballwin Boulevard. The first post office opened in 1888 and the first street to be laid out was Ballwin Boulevard. In 1905,Huntington Park was annexed by Anaheim and became part of that city's municipality. In 1912, it became an independent city again under the name of Huntington Park. Huntington Park was founded on November 7, 1853 by Capt. John Huntington and his brother Gen. Zachary Huntington as a cattle ranch on the east side of San Francisco Bay. It was named for General William Tecumseh Sherman, who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as U.S. commissioner in California during the period from 1848 to 1850. The first buildings were built near what is now Geary Boulevard and Market Street, and the first herd of beef cows was brought into town on October 12, 1854 by Capt. John Huntington’s son George Washington Huntington. At that time, it was one of only two towns in California with a population over 1,000 people; the other being Sacramento. On July 3, 1861, General Grant arrived at San Francisco and made his headquarters at Fort Point Newsome before leaving for Mexico City on November 8th aboard USS Monitor.. In 1862-1863 various military operations took place in California including: The Battle of Bear Flag Station (March 11-12), The Capture of Sacramento (April 9), Alta Loma Posada (July 26) In 1865 Rancho Los Amigos sold to James Irvine who changed its name to Anaheim Hills after purchasing area east of Glendale from José Alvarez y Costilla which included present day Orange County
