Huntington Park is a city located in the San Joaquin Valley of California, about 25 miles east of Fresno. The population was 36,901 at the 2010 census. George Stephenson offered them $10 for each day they stayed and built a cabin near what is now Fourth Street and Euclid Avenue. Stephenson camped out there every day he drove overland from Stockton to central California for seven days during his trip across the Great Western Railroad. The first store opened in 1860 on Third Street between Euclid Avenue and First Street; it became known as Mrs.'s Store because its owner's wife ran it. Huntington Park is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 20,598 at the 2010 census. Huntington Park is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first European to enter what is now Orange County was José Nieto on October 25, 1769. Nieto and his men explored and claimed land as part of Rancho Santa Ana de los Cahuillas which they named after Saint John the Baptist because he had baptized them there. In 1821, Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico was founded in what is now Huntington Park by Frate Lorenzo Ruiz y Costilla with the assistance of Governor Manuel Micheltorena. It became an incorporated town on July 15, 1892. In 1924, Dr. George Wernher von Braun who developed and flew the first American-made rocket engine at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona married Elsa Von Kappen (1893-1987), daughter of German immigrant Frederick Von Kappen (1781-1857). They moved to Huntington Park where she became an executive vice president of DuPont de Nemours & Co., a chemical company that manufactured nylon products until it merged with Dupont in 1984. She died in 1987 at the age of 87 after an extensive career in management including several years as CEO at DuPonts $2 billion consumer goods company Kenworth Corporation

The community grew rapidly after it was designated as a dry goods store district in 1876 and as a manufacturing center for agricultural products in 1887. The first incorporated school in Huntington Park was the Girls’ School (now known as the John S. Huntington Elementary School) opened in 1888. In 1905, the city of Pasadena annexed Huntington Park to become its second city limits and reincorporated it as a separate municipality under the name of Pasadena.
