Huntington Park is located in western San Bernardino County, California. It is the most populous city within the boundaries of the San Bernardino County seat of San Bernardino, and it is also one of the most affluent cities in California. The population was 105,546 as of 2010. At one time, Huntington Park was a major center for gun manufacturing and research. Huntington Park began as a small frontier town that developed around military barracks that were constructed by General John C. Fremont in 1849. The name “Huntington” was given to the site because its location took advantage of two natural forests which yielded large amounts of silver ore: from Mission Peak and Mount Wilson (also called Mount Whitney). The original home sites for these mines were leased from various ranchers before they were sold outright to individuals or companies who then mined their own ore at their own discretion without paying anyone else any rent or royalties for use of their land/property. Huntington Park is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 27,811 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Greater Los Angeles County after Los Angeles and is the county seat of San Bernardino County. The first people to call Huntington Park their home were the Tongva people who lived there for centuries before moving to what is now Downtown LA. The first white person to live in Huntington Park was James Hartsfield who built his home on Manchester Avenue in 1892. In 1904, Mayor Winton Ewell approved plans by Henry J. Hill to build a shopping center between Manchester and Southeastern Avenues near where Interstate 10 meets Interstate 15. The first store opened at this location on November 15, 1904, under the name "Towne & Company." In 1907, Jack English bought land adjacent to what is now City Hall from developer Edwin Bogue and began developing it into a large park that would house an amusement park called English Park (now known as Hollywood Beach). English renamed it Huntington Park after himself and donated $5,000 of his own money towards its construction. The park opened on July 4th, 1911 with a baseball game against Live Oak High School (now Orange high school)

The site that would later become Huntington Park was part of Rancho San Francisco de la Venta, granted to Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1776. In 1851, the town of Huntington Park was incorporated and began to build on the land grant. It took until 1861 for all of Huntington Park to be built and it wasn't until 1892 that the first school opened. The current building, which is located at 2200 block of N Street, was built in 1912 and has been used as a library since 1938.
