Huntington Park is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 381 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1877 by James M. Hughes and incorporated in 1888. It is named for George Custer, who died in 1890 during the Black Hills War of 1876. In 1923, the City of Huntington Park annexed part of neighbouring Santa Ana and formed what is nowSanta Ana City Unified School District. Huntington Park's first gun Trigger was built on Euclid Avenue east of Euclid Street by Harry Wertz on November 12, 1877 as a private gunsmiths shop and pistol range known as Purdy's Gun Shop & Range. This trigger became an important factor in the development of Huntington Park as agun-owning community with a wide variety of firearms available for purchase from local gunsmiths and dealers throughout central Orange County. The incorporation of Huntington Park into the City of Santa Ana created new challenges forGun Ownership within the newly merged municipality including restrictions on number, type and caliberof guns that could be owned or stored within limits established by Santa Ana officials; these limitations were ultimately lifted when Huntington Park annexed into Santa Ana City Unified School District effective January 1st, 1978(*). Huntington Park is a city in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded on December 12, 1876, by George E. Huntington and his brother-in-law, Elias G. Howe. The city's population reached 3,521 in the 2010 census. The original center of town was located at the intersection of West Elm and North Haskell Streets. However, thisalignment no longer exists as East Elm Street runs parallel to West Haskell Street while North Haskell Street continues northward instead to intersect with I-15 just south of downtown Huntington Park. Howe Avenue which ran east-west between North Haskell and South Haskell Streets until it crossed I-15 also served as the original downtown business district for Huntington Park before it became a commercial district only north of I-15 instead. As early as 1875 George E. Huntington had begun negotiations to purchase land from José Joaquín Baca for what would become known as "Huntington Park". The Baca family had been living in Los Angeles since 1784 when they settled on the Rancho Santa Margarita 250 acres (1 km2) east of Mission Dolores de Palomar nearpresent day Claremont Village and Olvera Road. By 1876 George E. Huntington had purchased all but one acre (0.4 km2) of the property from Baca and began construction on what would eventually become his own community called "Huntington Park". The first residents arrived in November 1876 when nine families moved into two houses that were erected at Circle Drive and West Elm Boulevard - soon renamed "Howe Avenue". On December 12th, 1876, George E., Jr., granted deeds to 474 other citizens who contributed $10 each towards founding the city limits including mayor James Hickey (via telegram), treasurer John Butterfield (via telegram), postmaster Isaac Steele (via letter), doctor Samuel Mayses ( via cable), Arent Purdy (via cable), Jno Folsom (by donation) and Wm Hunt & Bros.( via donation). This act demonstrated that not only did people want to live in Huntington Park but also support its establishment as a municipality
