Huntington Park is a town in San Bernardino County, California. It was incorporated on February 14, 1887. The population was 26,857 at the 2010 census. The Post Office closed on July 9, 1990. The first people to live in Huntington Park were the Tyagi brothers who settled there in 1878. In 1886 when the San Bernardino Railway came through town, they built a depot and began selling goods from their wagonloads of hay to nearby residents and businesses. The first school in Huntington Park was built in 1888 by Mrs. Mary Hennessey with help from her husband Mr. John Hennessey and others. A second school was built in 1893 by Mrs. Lizzie Fenton with help from local farmers and influential citizens such as Mayor James Ewing and Judge Augustus Condon of Los Angeles County.. In 1904, Drury Brothers hardware store opened up shop on Main Street which became one of the most important businesses in town until it closed its doors in 1992 due to economy problems. In 1907-08, Huntington Park played host to the International Goodwill Games where over $10 million worth of donated goods were distributed throughout Southern California including food items for 2 million people! A park was erected near what is now downtown for use by various civic organizations during that time frame including baseball, tennis, track & field (the first ever held here), basketball and football games as well as picnics and other events which drew large crowds from all over Southern California! A high school named after Commodore Perry started operations here back in 1916 but it too closed its doors due to financial troubles just as prohibition had already taken hold across America(). In 1941-42 an indoor arena/ gymnasium called “Concordia” (later demolished) opened up next door to Venice High School which housed students grades 8th-12th grade along with a number of vocational programs specific to this area like welding & machine tooling etc... finally opens its doors again thanks largely to some bucks contributed by then Supervisor William Jahnke who saw potential here! After years of struggle Concordia reopens officially under new name: Huntington Parks Junior College (HPJC). In 1984 another high school open it’s doors called Pasadena Hills HS which lasted until 2002 when it too closes its doors due mostly because poverty stricken families could not afford tuition prices even though property taxes remained stable!! Finally opens itsdoors once more after much fanfare thanks largely to philanthropist Ronald Reagan who personally endowed both schools!!!
