It is located on the eastern edge of downtown San Bernardino, and it consists of a single street, Elm Street, running northwest-southeast. The ZIP code for Huntington Park is 92442. As of the 2010 census, the population was 44,045. The first people to live in what is now Huntington Park were Native American Chumash people who lived along the banks of the San Gabriel River. In 1820 Mexican soldiers invaded California and discovered this area and named it Rancho Cañon de Santa Ana after General José Joaquín de Alvarado's headquarters at Mission Dolores on top of Cerro Gordo Hill in Mexico City. In 1827 developer John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort at Mission Viejo and began purchasing land near where he would build his millrace (later called Sutter's Mill). He laid out a township which included present-day Huntington Park on November 14, 1828. When he died in 1850 his wife may have been named Juana Ortega Sutter because she inherited property from him that adjoined that of her late husband within minutes of his death. In 1853 Kilbourne & Company built their own private railroad line from Los Angeles to Pasadena through what is now Huntington Park as part of theirrailroad construction plans then known as "The Big Project." This line became known as The Orange Line when it was extended eastward from Los Angeles overland via Cahuenga Pass into Anaheim County in 1893 during large reconstruction projects following numerous fires throughout Southern California including ones that destroyed most of Angelseno Valley between Glendale and Pasadena On July 15th 1870 Samuel Morse set up an experimentallegraph service between New York City and Baltimore using black iron wire stretched across two miles (3 km) above Main Street in front of his family’s house on Long Beach Point about a mile south-southwest of today’s intersection of Wilson Boulevard and Santa Fe Drive: this was called “Morse Telegraph Station No 1” Today’s White Sands Missile Range stands just beyond the back fenceline parallel to Wilson Boulevard just eastwardof today’s radar antenna site adjacent to Menlo Avenue North Between 1865-1872 when Central Pacific Railroad reached here they built Depot #1 with Wagon House attached also used by CPR Train crew quarters until 1906 Amtrak moved there Donahue office became home to ARC Western Car Co warehouse before becoming Hastings Bldg Multifamily complex housing project opened there too
