On this property, they built a school which was known as “Booth” School until 1922 when it became “Huntington Park Elementary”. The first high school in Huntington Park was opened in 1916 and it was known as “Dowling High School” from 1916-1921. It was after World War II when Huntington Park began to grow and develop because of the increase in traffic coming into town from surrounding counties. The first large duplexes were built on Sully Drive around 1950 which caused more people to move into town and start businesses. After that, development continued at an increasing rate until eventually there were over fifty thousand residents living within walking distance of each other on Sully Drive by 1974! In 1892, John Sutter founded Sutter's Mill on an armory site he had acquired along with some other properties in what would become Huntington Park. The first post office was established at Rancho Cahuenga de la Mesa Blanca on October 14th, 1893 under the name "Hollywood". On November 5th, 1903, Hollywood became an incorporated town with a population of 758 people when it amalgamated with Villa del Rey which also became an incorporated town on December 12th that year. In 1915, two brothers by the name of Gilmore bought 1/2 mile (0.16 km) of open space north of present day Causeway Boulevard between Sierra Madre Road and Florence Avenue for $5 per acre ($27 000 or €24 000 at today's prices). This land later became known as Gilmore Park after them
