The first gunsIGHTS were created in Huntington Park, California in the early 1800s. The company was named “Gunsights” and it was a gunsmith shop. It was started by Samuel Colt and his brother, Eli. In 1836, Gunsights made the first revolver in America. It was called the Colt Peacemaker. The Gunsight Company operated for over 120 years and manufactured some of the most famous firearms in history including the iconic revolvers used in movies such as "Garfield" and "3 Men with No names". During World War II, Gunsights produced ammunition for use by American forces. They also produced rifles for military use and eventually became one of the largest firearms manufacturers in California. When Firearmsighting merged with Alcoa Inc., it became one of North America's leading makers of firearms products including revolvers, shotguns, pistols and rifle barrels. In 1984, Gunsights sold its assets to Remington Arms Corporation which is now part of Smith&Wesson Corporation

Today Huntington Park has an estimated population of over 60K people who live in its vibrant downtown district which includes many shopping streets including Main Street/Gower Street; Tower Place; Grant Avenue/Donahue Boulevard; Van Ness Avenue/Elliott Ave.; Depot Alley; Market Square (formerly known as Seventh Street); Masonic Temple Square; University Place/Elmhurst Drive; Fine Arts Center Plaza (formerly known as Citizens Theatre Plaza); and Union Station Plaza. There are also several small neighborhoods within or near Downtown: Garden Grove Heights Village (northwest of Downtown), Midtown Eastside (southwest of Downtown), Cerritos Valley (southeast of Downtown), Willowbrook (northeast of Downtown) - all thriving with their own unique amenities unique to their residents
Huntington Park was founded in 1887 by George and Lydia Huntington. The first post office was established in 1888. In 1897, the city became a county seat of San Bernardino County. The city's population grew rapidly during the 1920s and 1930s, reaching 100,000 by 1932. However, during the 1940s and 1950s, Huntington Park experienced significant decline as a result of economic recession and suburbanization. The city's population peaked at around 25,000 in 2000 but has since declined again.
