Huntington Park, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 72,851 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Pasadena and San Marino. The city was founded in 1887 by Dr. George Washingburn Huntington and his wife Alta Cushing Huntington as Hacienda de las Flores (Hacienda of Flowers). In 1923 it became known as Huntington Park after its founder's father-in-law, James Fenton Huntington. The name change commemorated the fact that then-Mayor James Fenton had helped to make Huntington Park a reality by donating land for its creation. The first post office opened in 1887 and moved to its current location in 1903. In 1932, Arturo Sandoval became Mayor of Los Angeles and announced plans to annex part of Pasadena into Los Angeles County because he felt that they were not sharing enough cultural opportunities with one another. In response, members of the Pasadena City Council began to argue unsuccessfully against annexation until finally voting 5-3 on November 1, 1932 to annex part of Huntington Park as well - making it the second large municipality within LA County to be annexed into county government since voters had ratified an amendment authorizing such action two years earlier Today much of what once made up both municipalities has been absorbed into downtown Los Angeles or other nearby areas; however much architecture from these days remains scattered throughout various neighborhoods near downtown including those along Junipero Serra Boulevard which runs through Huntington Park
