Huntington Park, California is a town in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 31,835 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Huntington Park was John Wesley Powell, who arrived on October 9, 1869. After selling his land to the community for $5 per acre ($100 total), Powell built a log cabin and started trading with other pioneers in what would become Huntington Park. In 1870, he married Anna Maria Peters and together they founded the village of Petersville on their new land. The original post office was established in 1871. In 1887, an act of Congress added Los Angeles County to California; as a result, Huntington Park became incorporated as a city on December 12 of that year. On February 11, 1893, it changed its name to Pasadena because it was then included within Pasadena City Limits and not within Los Angeles County limits as then proposed by state legislators. Huntington Park was founded on October 15, 1894 by John C. Huntington as a resort community for millionaire investors seeking to avoid congestion on their commute to nearby cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco. The City of Huntington Parks & Recreation Department manages the park system with over 1,000 park hours per year from its parks ranger corps who work with more than 100 volunteer groups that provide programming within the 616 acre (256 hectare) city limits. The first smallpox outbreak in Orange County occurred on Christmas Day 1892 when three men became infected with the disease at an amusement park near present-day downtown Huntington Park. This event led to vaccinations being given to many people in Orange County and also inspired Dr. George Wernham Haldane, a British physician who emigrated to America in 1891 and established himself as a medical doctor in Pasadena, to develop one of America's first public health clinics, which he did at what is now Cal State Fullerton University Hospital in 1895. In 1896, Dr. Haldane created what would come to be known as "Haldane's Rule" –now considered scientific advice –that recommended against exposing people living close together to smallpox because it could lead to social unrest if one group of individuals were perceived as being too powerful or threateningly influential compared to others within their community or neighborhood. In 1903–1904 during his presidency of Southern Californian Telephone Company (later Pacific Bell), Harry Chandler designed and built what is now Huntington Park's first telephone exchange building at 8th Street and Euclid Avenue East - later renamed First National Exchange Building - which served Orange County residents until 1926 when both Western Electric Telephone Company (later NBC) and Bell Laboratories moved into new exchanges located on Congress Avenue east of I-5 just north of downtown Los Angeles; this location remains today serving Angelenos with phone service from major American telco providers including Comcast/NBCUniversal through their current facilities across Exchanges Campus Drive NW between Federal Way Boulevard SW & Bellevue Drive NE

The area was remote and lack resources, so there was little to help new settlers build their homes or start their businesses.
