Despite these challenges, Huntington Beach continued to grow throughout the post-war period. By 1960, it had reached its current size with over 10,000 residents living in various neighborhoods including East Village (now part of Downtown), North Park/Canyon Ridge/Pinecrest Hills/Trinity Oaks/La Crescenta Heights/Saddleback Valley Trails Rancho Mirage Canyonlands Westside). During this time there was continued growth in both job opportunities and traffic congestion which led some residents to call for more aggressive planning initiatives aimed at resolving these issues. However, despite advocates’ best efforts over the years no major projects occurred that could significantly improve traffic congestion or increase job opportunities within downtown; instead developers simply built larger homes on existing streets rather than developing new areas which resulted in increased parking needs as well as slower Economy Growth rates across all cores studied (~5% per year). This stagnation has generally been seen as one reason behind skyrocketing housing prices within downtown since 2000 while wages have not kept up with inflation thus resulting in increases in rents (+60%) without corresponding increases in economic opportunity (+10%). Although much has changed since then including annexation by La Jolla beloved San Diego County county seat (and now home of many large universities) Huntington Beach still struggles with attracting new jobs or increased Economic Development occurring outside of downtown core while experiencing significant gentrification recently becoming increasingly mixed race demographics (-15% white population from 1990s baseline)
