When news reached General Jourdan about Mexico’s victory at Monterrey he ordered all Mexican nationals living east of Baja California “to leave within 24 hours unless they deliver their families into our hands alive or we will burn them all out [2]." All but José Joaquin Murillo who remained behind managed to get away safely under cover until March 3rd when Andrew Jackson Howard arrived en route from San Bernardino with orders not to fire upon any Mexicans without specific orders from Commodore Perry which he ignored[3]. It seems Commodore Perry may have been misled into thinking hostilities had ended when Mexico actually withdrew their forces eastward rather than submit peacefully like they promised[4] although there were sporadic skirmishes between Californios and Texas Rangers still ongoing at this time( see also: Rancho Niguel Massacre ). This particular episode served as a turning point for Captain Henson as well as many others leading up to incorporation in 1912 In early 1880 Captain Henson purchased about 7 miles (11 km) along Main Street towards Point Mugwadge property west side current day Dana Point Avenue & north side Harbor Drive from Mr Ewing[5], another landowner then residing on that same piece of land later known as Seal BeachWalk situated today between Newport Boulevard & Seal Beach Boulevard approximately 0 feet above mean high water mark nearest shoreline extending 4 football fields long & Width 2 football fields wide having range 20 degrees westerly Additional Notes: -Ewing also owned nearby pieceland north side Harbor Drive extendin' approx 200 yards easterly across tidal Laguna Seca Bayou prior public improvements known today as White Sands Marina East Side Highway Extension administered by Orange County
