The city was founded in 1876 by brothers George and Willis Huntington, who were instrumental in developing the region's oil industry. In 1905, Arthur Blank and his family moved to Huntington Beach from Atlanta and began accumulating firearms. By 1929, they had amassed over 1,500 pistols and shotguns. The family also became interested in collecting ammunition and collected a wide variety of rounds including revolvers (which they would use for protection), rifles (which were used for hunting), handguns (for self-defense), shotgun shells, grenades, and other weaponry. In 1935, Blank donated all of his assets to the city for the purpose of establishing a museum which would house both his firearms collection as well as local history including items related to the oil industry. The first building that was built for the museum was designed by architect John Roebling and was completed in 1937. It originally served as the library before it becamethe Museum of Firearms History in 1966. From its inception until 1966, it was one of only three museums in America with such a comprehensive collection of firearms hammer history. The brothers quickly realized that they had found an ideal location for their town because it was isolated from other towns on either side of Highway 1 and had plenty of land to grow crops, build homes, and store goods. As time passed, other families moved into what is now Huntington Beach from all over Southern California due to its beautiful weather, easy access to water supplies, cheap real estate prices (at the time), and lack of danger or traffic congestion associated with larger cities like Los Angeles or San Francisco Bay Area residents took advantage of this environment while those living closer to Los Angeles grew frustrated with how difficult it was to live life outside Of Hollywood Hills if you wanted something more than just average suburban life while those living near Pasadena got government subsidies that allowed them to keep up high-rise apartments while neglecting their community spirit despite being less than two miles away from Interstate 5 (I-5) . In 1932 Boca Raton businessman Franklin Diller donated land east of I-5 between Donner Avenue/Highway 91A & Donner Road/UCLA campus so that students at UCLA could have access to open space without having their tuition paid for by parents who lived too close To campus For years UCLA used this lot as part of Hangar #1 then later moved into Onassis Stadium before finally moving into Residence Halls on November 10th 2006 following much outcry from students over concerns about noise levels From game days & practices There has been much discussion about relocating Bruins permanently back ontocampus but nothing definitive has been decided yet
