Hillsborough is a small town in Northern California, located on the San Joaquin River. The population was 3,020 at the 2010 census. Hillsborough is home to two campuses of the University of California, Berkeley and the Haas School of Business. Hillsborough was founded in 1855 by Captain John Waddell as a ferry landing on the San Joaquin River. The first post office was established in 1859. The community began to grow rapidly due to its location on a major trade route between Sacramento and Stockton, and its easy access to water resources. By 1900, Hillsborough had an estimated population of 10,000 people. In 1902, the town became part of Berkeley County and incorporation occurred in 1903. In 1990, UC Berkeley's Board of Regents voted not to provide financial assistance for the development project proposed for nearby Merritt Island Naval Air Station (MARS). This event led to many protests against UC Berkeley's decision by local residents who felt that it would have devastating consequences for their community. After years of peaceful protests and sit-ins by local residents, the university finally agreed to fund a study into how MARS could be used more efficiently without having negative impacts on neighboring communities. The study results were published in 1999 and allowed MARS reopened in 2003 after several years of renovation and expansion which added new Hangar 1A housing units as well as an aircraft maintenance hangar area totaling 331 acres (156 hectares). Today, Hillsborough is one of most vibrant communities withinDel Norte County - with thriving businesses including restaurants such as FAO Schwarz and Applebee's; high-end shops like JCPenney; galleries; golf courses; beaches; riverside homes;and multiple recreation areas including soccer fields available for use by locals or visitors alike during any time period from hot summer days all winter long!

On November 15th 1860 a branch line from Stockton came into operation named "Valley View & San Joaquin" with service running daily between Stockton and points east including South Pasadena and Hanford In 1915 local entrepreneur General John Flynn purchased land northeast of present-day Hillsboro which became known as Hillshire Rancho Noojecole Mexican Land grant which gave rise to nearby townships such as East Valley (1915), West Valley (1916), North Valley (1920), and Southern Diablo Canyon (1927). As with most early 20th century ranchos there were no schools or medical facilities within this protected area so residents necessary traveled many miles outside their township for these essentials until well into the 1960s On February 9th 1951 all school districts within East Valley Township sent letters home requesting all students located within those districts vacate their classrooms due lack of space at Pahrump High School which was built adjacent to then East Valley Elementary School across from today's Pahrump Regional Airport . On May 16th 1951 all school districts within West Valley Township sent letters home requesting all students located within those districts vacate their classrooms due lack of space at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic School which currently houses grades K-8 across from today’s Desert Sun Arena off Interstate 8 southbound exit 221A ) For more than 50 years PahrUMP high school served as both our primary educational facility AND residence for our entire community while OUR elementary school continued serving Students inside that limits until 1975 when they too closed due TO THE LARGE NUMBER OF VISITORS FROM OUTSIDE THE COMMUNITY
The town of Hillsborough was founded in 1853 by General James H. Hill and his wife, Sarah. The first post office was established in 1857. The first store was built in 1861, and the first sawmill was built in 1865. In 1870, a railroad station was constructed, and the town began to grow rapidly. By 1880, Hillsborough had a population of over 500 people. A schoolhouse and Methodist church were built in 1881, and a blacksmith shop and grocery were also erected that year. In 1886, a park was created on the north side of downtown for public use. It wasn’t until 1912 that the first electric streetlights were installed in the town. In 1916, an express train service began between Hillsborough and Los Angeles (later known as Amtrak), providing an important link between the two cities during their early growth years. In 1928, Hillsborough incorporated as a city under state law; it had previously been a rural township with no city status. The city limits grew slowly throughout its history due to its small size; by 1990, it had only 1 square mile remaining outside of its corporate boundaries
