In 1912, William Hudgins founded Hudgins Tire & Rubber company which still operates today as one of Southern California's largest tire manufacturers. In 1923, then-Mayor James Rolph championed plans for a new municipal stadium for use by both city government and local high school teams; construction began soon after and finished in 1927. The original polycarbonate dome stands tall today as a reminder of this early success story for Hillsborough residents and fans alike! Today's Municipal Stadium also houses numerous other businesses within its walls including law firms (including Morrison & Foerster), accounting firms (Wachtell Lipton & Rosenbloom LLP) as well as medical clinics (Leeds Hospital Medical Center). Construction of adjacent Interstate 10 was completed in 1926 concurrent with the baseball stadium project - making it one of only a few freeway projects ever undertaken in metropolitan Los Angeles during that time frame! Hillsborough, California is a census-designated place in Sonoma County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 26,924. The community was founded by pioneers in 1877 as Sleepy Hollow and later developed into an agricultural center with a temperate climate. Hillsborough was incorporated on February 8, 1914. The community is named after John Fenton Hill (1822-1910), prominent landowner and founder of nearby Petaluma Township. The first permanent settlement in what would become Hillsborough was made by Van Ness and his brother Nathaniel at the mouth of the Napa River in 1877. They started a sawmill and sold goods to travelers on their way down the river. When they built a house on their new property they named it "Sleepy Hollow." In 1911 when Hwy 101 was constructed through Sonoma County, Sleepy Hollow became part of that highway's routing and continues to be used as its mailing address today. In 1915 during World War I local resident Wernher von Braun designed and built an experimental rocket engine testing site just east of town along US 101 near Geyserville Road on what is now known as Hillcrest Drive. Von Braun's engine test facility remains operational to this day, providing power for cars across Sonoma County from its location close to downtown Hillsborough. This early history can be seen in many places within the community such as: The Pioneer Cemetery which contains graves dating back to 1877; Von Braun's Engine Test Facility located east of town off US 101 near Geyserville Rd.; old Smith & Williamson grocery stores located throughout town; local schools like Stonington Elementary School which were established before 1914; etc... It is also evident in current street names such as: Hillcrest Dr., Ira Jaffe Way, etc... It can be readily appreciated that while there have been some changes over time with regard to demographics (e.g.: Population growth has resulted in more people living outside of town), overall aspects surrounding the community - including its namesake - have maintained strong ties over time ensuring that Hillsborough remains one of truly unique communities within Sonoma County!
Hillsborough is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 25,868 at the 2010 census. Hillsborough is part of the San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area. The first known settlement in what is now Hillsborough was made by Mexicans on aranch land near what is now Norwalk Avenue and Indian Wells Road in 1821. A branch of the Mission Santa Ana del Oro group settled there in 1827. In 1850, Mexican Americans founded the city of Anaheim on hills overlooking downtown San Diego and soon after they began to move into Hillsborough as well. In 1907, when Riverside County was created from parts of Orange and San Bernardino counties, Hillsborough became part of it as well. The city's growth accelerated during World War II as many post-World War II veterans returned to their homes in the city and its environs. The population peaked at 30,000 in 1950 but has since declined slightly due to steady migration into surrounding communities and other center cities throughout California. In recent years the City Council has been working to revive some aspects of downtown business district including building a new plaza on Third Street (just east of Los Alamitos Boulevard) that would house restaurants and cultural attractions such as art galleries, small businesses incubated through community partnerships or supported by developer fees; also plans are underway for an amphitheater located adjacent to Third Street oval which could host large concerts or sports events with views out over Interstate 5 between Newport Beach and Carlsbad Caverns National Park
