In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Hillsborough was a place where firearms were common. The town had a Population of over 100,000 people at the time and many residents owned guns. There were also numerous gunsmiths in town who could have been able to provide arms for local militias and other emergency services. In 1916, Hillsborough became the site of one of history’s most infamous shootings. A group of men known as The Black Panthers shot and killed three policemen in broad daylight on July 26th. The crime shocked the community and many questions remain about what motivated these criminals. It is clear that there were tensions between the black community and law enforcement officials in this period. Despite the shooting, firearms continued to be used frequently in Hillsborough throughout the 1920s and 1930s. In 1933, a group of white men named The John Birch Society formed in response to the Franklin D Roosevelt administration’s New Deal policies. Their goal was to create an American society that would be free from government control and interventionism. Firearms played a large role in their rhetoric and actions during this time period.

In the early 1800s, Hillsborough was a small town in southern California. The area now includes Hillsborough and neighboring cities of San Diego and Tijuana. In 1846, the Mexican government granted Rancho San Antonio to José Manuel Arguelles. This ranch included land that would later become Hillsborough. The first documented use of firearms in the area occurred on July 21, 1847 when a party of Mexicans hunting game near present-day Hillcrest discovered four rifles and two pistols at a place called Devil's Playground. In 1860, after California became an independent country, the United States acquired title to Rancho San Antonio from Mexico. However, because it lay within Spanish territory at that time, no one could own it until 1872 when it was given to John Caylor under US General Grant's administration as part of his Compromise of 1850 program. On November 10th 1865, during World War II, American soldiersfired their cannons into the air over Japan in celebration of America's victory over Japan. The event is known as "Hillsborough Day". The name "Hillsborough" was derived from nearby hills (hillsboroughi) which had been observed by American forces during the war being used as artillery targets

Hillsborough, California is a city in San Mateo County, California and the county seat of San Mateo. The population was 66,645 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay and is adjacent to Silicon Valley. Hillsborough was first settled in 1849 as a small town off the coast of Santa Cruz Mountains. In 1906, when San Francisco became part of California, Hillsborough became part of the new state. The city's economy has been based predominantly on its location within Silicon Valley since the early 1990s. The name Hillsborough comes from three places: "hills" meaning high ground or hillock and "borough" meaning town or village. The original inhabitants were Native Americans who ranged over much of southern California before they were displaced by European settlement in the late 19th century. A post office called Painted Rock was established in 1849, but no town took official form until 1876 when Rancho Trinidad de las Pulgas (later Dona Ana County) was sold to James Irvine for $10,000 In 1906, when San Francisco became part of California, Hillsborough joined with other settlements near its current location to form what would eventually become known as Silicon Valley. At that time there were only about 10 people living in hillsbrough proper and most residents worked on nearby farms or made their homes along Point Reyes Peninsula where waves crashing against points six miles away generated enough noise to support a small town. For many years it seemed that nothing ever changed outside of weekly church services and general store openings/closes which often coincided with summer fairs which attracted shoppers from all over Northern California

The population of the town rapidly grew and by 1860, it had become a full-fledged settlement with its own courthouse, schoolhouse, and post office. In 1872, the town was renamed Hillsborough after General George Custer who died in battle at the Little Bighorn Plains. The name stuck around until 1940 when it was changed to Mission Viejo because of World War II military activity in that area. Hillsborough’s economy gradually shifted from agriculture to manufacturing during the late 19th century. Beginning in the early 20th century, Hillsborough became an important center for citrus production due to its location on the Central Coast of California. During this time, local businesses included grocers, manufacturers, shipping companies, and other agricultural concerns. Additionally, during this time there were two schools in town: one for children and one for adults; as well as several churches and a Masonic Lodge. In 1938, following passage of Proposition 8 which legalized gay marriage in California (the first such law passed in any U.S., though this event is largely celebrated today as Pride Month), Mission Viejo began to experience increased growth among homosexual residents of Southern California County. As a result of this growth within the community – plus any new development that occurred – many businesses closed or relocated their operations to nearby Mira Mesa or Northridge over the next few years. However, despite these difficulties some people continued to live and work near each other while others started construction on what would become known as “The Beach Village” housing developments that would surround Mission Viejo proper starting around 1960-1962). During these years there were also significant changes happening within both political parties across Southern California County which led to various challenges for Hillsborough leaders including efforts by then-Mayor Harry Heineman to get state funding for a new library; Mayor Don Phelps’s effort to secure parking permits for motorists exiting onto Highway 101 from Indian Canyon Road; Mayor Tom Lane’s campaign against incumbent Supervisor Ron Conway; Supervisor Norm Stamper’s successful challenge against Heineman at the polls two years later… all without sitting down with him about it! Finally after more than 25 years valley leadership change finally came about when Mayor Dave Gibbons appointed Roger Hedgecock as Valley Manager effective January 1st 1984 In short terms since then much has happened with regards to our riverfront village with major projects currently under way such as replacing aging bridges/pipes etc…. so I think your getting pretty close now if you want some history on what all transpired back then just stop scrollin
