Hillsborough is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. The population was 1,992 at the 2010 census. It is located in Fresno County. The first Europeans to visit Hillsborough were Franciscan missionaries from the Order of Friars Minor in 1542. In 1846, the community was founded by James Waddell and his wife Angelina Baca as a rancho on an Rancho Seco tract near present-day Porterville. The name "Hillsborough" was given to it by Mr. John Pemberton who platted that part of Fresno County in 1848. In 1860, during the American Civil War, Hill'sborough became one of three Union towns within Fresno County when it merger with Big Trees and Nopalilla townships (now part of Madera). In 1863, following the surrender of General Nelson Acheson at Appomattox Court House, most residents left for North America but some returned in 1865 under General Ulysses S. Grant as part of his 'Final Solution'. They rebuilt their homes and businesses throughout 1865-1868 while they awaited news of fresh reinforcements to fight against General Johnston's army over the Mexican Border. When these arrived they found that much had changed since they'd last been there; infrastructure such as roads and water systems had not kept up with population growth or advancements in technology – many people still lived hand-to-mouth conditions until after World War II when modern housing developments began taking hold hereabouts. During WWII most citizens took advantage of government housing projects which were built around strategic locations like military bases or munitions plants; this included operations areas like Cheney Air Force Base where civilian workers cooked troops' food before takeoff or landing so planes could be refueled without coming down into combat airspace etc.; production areas such as Kearny Mesa Ammunition Plant where millions rounds were shot during WWII; and even now various local governments have remaining portionss of military storage facilities open for public use including: West Point Army Post Office (closed 2009), former Naval Weapons Station Kings Bay (closed 2007) - all now parkland surrounded by high school students’ yards Kaiser Permanente Medical Center has property surrounding it on 3 sides - land leased from them by Gold Country Regional Park District which manages both Kaiser Hospital Campus & adjacent Golden State College campus - hospital property includes buildings used by both Kaiser & SCD campuses between 1945-1955 & parts used again between 1960s-1990s when college construction stopped while hospital expansions continued Today Hillsborough remains largely rural with only 2%+ population living inside city limits; however there are several scattered businesses/residential areas downtown along SE 5th Street between First Avenue & Hwy 99A about 1 mile east from I-5 exit 1117A providing grocery stores, gas stations etc., plus a few schools nestled among houses off Hwy 99A northeast from downtown: St John Bosco Catholic Church (opened 1905), Holy Name Cathedral School (opened 1907) which is home to locally raised children attending parochial schools operated independently for many years until Cal Poly Pomona started using them starting in 1966; more recently affiliated Montessori School operates outbuilding currently being used as gymnasium on campus next door to Newman High School . There are also several places set up like farmer's markets each Saturday morning located near Civic Arena along SE 4th Street northeast corner George Chavez Boulevard

Hillsborough is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 33,471 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in San Bernardino County after Tustin and is one of the fastest-growing cities in Northern California. Hillsborough was founded by Anglo-Americans on land that now includes part of downtown Los Angeles. The first post office in Hillsborough was established on December 12, 1887. The city became incorporated as a village on November 15, 1907. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Hillsborough were Anglo-Americans who arrived from Pasadena and other nearby towns looking for land to purchase or homesteaded from Mexican American landowners who had agreed not to sell parcels of land to non-citizens. The initial population of Hillsborough consisted of 20 people only; however over time the town grew with the arrival of more residents from southern and central California as well as others scattered throughout Southern California through kin relationships and marriage alliances. On November 15, 1907, Mayor Harry Brouwer issued an ordinance creating a city government which would be headed by a City Council with five members appointed by Mayor Brouwer and two chosen by District Attorney James Wickersham. On January 1st 1908 the City Council adopted resolutions establishing public parks located near downtown including Hillcrest Park (now Bureau of Land Management’s Echo Park National Monument), Indian Reservoir Park (now Inland Empire Regional Airport), Main Street Park (now Exposition Boulevard), Pioneer Avenue Park (now Ortega Street) and Victory Boulevard Parkway which are still used today as public spaces within the city limits. In 1913 voters passed an election proposition establishing equal rights for women which led to passage of Proposition 8 which granted voting rights to women over men in state elections until it was repealed in 1976 following successful litigation by women's groups across many states seeking similar benefits statewide
The town of Hillsborough, California was founded in 1853 by James A. Hill and his wife, Ann. The first post office was established in 1854 and the first school was built in 1855. In 1865, the name of the town was changed to Hillsborough Mines after a gold mine opened up nearby. The mines closed in the early 1920s, but Hillsborough continued to exist as a small farming community until it merged with neighboring towns in 1974.
