Hesperia is a small town in the Sacramento Valley and part of the San Joaquin Valley. The population was 4,020 as of 2010, making it the smallest town in California and one of the most rural. It is located on the north side of the Sacramento River, about 30 miles east of downtown Sacramento. The Hesperia post office was founded on July 3, 1892, and closed on October 17, 1969. The first settler in Hesperia was John J. Tierney. In 1907, William Aiken donated land to establish Hesperia High School which opened in 1912 as a public school for boys only. In 1959, Hesperia Elementary School became Hesperia Junior-Senior High School when it merged with neighboring Easton High School. Hesperia's economy is based largely on agriculture; there are no industry or services other than farming and ranching activities. About 60% of residents work outside of town for wages or tips; there are also a few small businesses that provide some services to residents within town limits (such as grocery stores). There are no public transportation options within or near town so people must travel to larger cities or towns for employment opportunities outside of their home counties.

Hesperia is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 4,223 at the 2000 census and 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. The community was founded by George Hinton in 1881 as Hesperia Reserve. In 1916, Hesperia became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and six council members. The name comes from Greek: Ἑστερία "Espía" meaning "prominence", " height ", and Μουσικής μεγάλων συναγωγῆς "Músikós miniánós" meaning "musical instruments of great size". The first post office in Hesperia opened on November 8, 1882. A store was built on Main Street in 1903. A telephone line was established in 1926 and service began to Mesquiteville on October 1, 1928; it continued to Heber City until 1951 when it moved to Hesperia proper. On December 15, 1915, the city charter was changed from incorporation to city status; the first mayor was Harry Wesselman (1916-1917). In 1924–1925 a new water tower and pipeline were built west of town for irrigation purposes; these projects are now known as Hesperia Ranch Park (). A hot air balloon ascent over downtown Hesperia took place on May 2, 1912. In 1923–24 a large gas plant operation by American Gas Company resulted in several thousand dollars' worth of local taxes being raised which went into funds for school construction and other needs such as libraries and fire protection services that were not immediately apparent or desired by residents or governing body. On January 17th 1933 there occurred an unfortunate development when one Mr Ewing's truck ran out of fuel while servicing power lines near his home east of town & caught fire resulting in $3200 damage done to his property (& 6 hours lost work ). This event had significant ramifications as it put increased pressure on public officials to find solutions & provide more affordable energy options for citizens without sacrificing quality service or safety measures! Some individuals within the community lobbied hard & ultimately helped get American Gas Company building #1 open (now known as Powerscourt) just east of town which created muchneeded jobs (& saved many thousands more dollars!). It should be noted that some residents did not appreciate this type of business investment especially during tough economic times – however overall people were very supportive throughout this time period! Ashes Place Shopping Center opened its doors later that year along with Powerscourt Elementary School providing schooling for all students early morning until late afternoon/evening instead of having to walk miles down Uptown streetside each day like before! And finally our local hospital – Dr Broughton Hospital opened its doors on October 3rd 1935 under new ownership with excellent medical care available sooner rather then later due largely to donations from citizens (many thanks goes out again Mrs Covered Bridge Brewing Company!) It’s important noting that due to WWII efforts by both local authorities & military personnel stationed nearby hospital doors often remained closed which impacted patient care negatively – however overall people have always been willing (& able)to help out their friends & family during THESE difficult times!
